This is an example of how (and when) people turn to government for "help."..Not just FEMA but local and state governments too. And govt. agencies and resources etc...Local churches and volunteer agencies play a big role. But all in all people look to govt. officials and agencies for direction and "help."..Anything can happen at any time when it comes to natural disasters. (Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, raging fires and you name it!)...Anyway I hope that "Sandy" calms down a bit and doesn't do the kind of damage that's been predicted...It's already having an effect on election coverage. And I hope it won't prevent anyone from being able to vote. Hope no one dies. (This is more important than anything!)

I live in Ocean City Maryland and its a total disaster area.

The ocean and bay have come together in the middle of the town and its just one giant pool now.

tens of millions if not more in damage.

it has been all they predicted and then some..
Sorry...Have you experienced any personal damage to your property? I guess things are due to intensify....CNN just showed some footage of your area...It's hard to think or care about the candidates and the election right now...Anyway keep sending "reports" if you don't mind. Hope you don't lose power or have severe damage to your home.

Uh, he lives on the coast. He knows the risks. Anyone who lives in a beach town knows what can happen during hurricanes.

I was hoping it was all media hype and wouldn't be this bad.
Also glad I don't live in Delaware anymore.

Love n Light to everyone in harms way.

"Sandy" is suppose to travel inland and reak havoc in areas well beyond the coastline...These days anything can happen anywhere...Last month we had a "freak storm" here in the desert that no one expected...The winds from that storm picked up an RV and a chicken coop in my friend's yard and threw everything against 2 of my friend's trucks. (And damaged the trucks beyond repair.)...One of the trucks used to be my "baby." I sold the truck to my friend after my husband died because I only needed one vehicle. (And I chose the car.)..The storm blew-out the front windows of a local "dollar store" and damaged stock and inventory....Thank goodness no one was killed since the store was open at the time...None of this is normal for our area. I'll never forget that storm because it happened the night before my son died.

The storm is exceeding all expectations. Much of the damage is yet to come. The maximum flooding occurs after the ground is saturated and the streams are full. The rain keeps coming with no place for the water to go. The warm air mass that follows the storm melts the snow and the water has no place to go. Flood control devices are overwhelmed and no longer have any effect.

Hurricane Ike went directly over my home and I didn't get electricity for almost two weeks. In the meantime, I took my jeep out to help FEMA. People who have never experienced the damage a hurricane can do are in for a big surprise.

Millions are now without power. Houston sent eighty workers and many electric service vehicles to help yesterday.

I'm on Long Island and we've had mostly trees down, power outtages and debris everywhere. Some are dealing with flooding . I consider myself lucky because i have power at the moment. My neighbors and family are doing ok. Don't think anyone will know the full extent of damage for a while.

New York City is virtually shut down-and that NEVER happens!noway

SuperStorm Sandy, is the worse storm ever on the East Coast
on record for centries. I have family and friends is NC who got only wind and rain.
Chicago Illinois is getting the winds and rain today and tonight
and their lake has never seen such Waves.
