Some Are Turning In Their Guns Following Connecticut Shooting

By Igor Volsky on Dec 16, 2012 at 12:53 pm

In the aftermath of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, some Americans are turning in their guns as part of local government buy-backed programs.

Residents in New York City, New York, Camden, New Jersey, Baltimore, Maryland, and San Francisco, California, sold hundreds of weapons back to the government no-questions asked, with some attributing their decisions to the Connecticut tragedy.

“After the incident yesterday, it was time to get it out of the house,” Sonia White, a 65-year-old Baltimore County grandmother said. A man in San Francisco explained, “I’ve got kids, man.” “Kids are curious. Kids don’t know any better. I had it locked in a toolbox, so I don’t know. … I just know it had to go.”

Following this month’s killings by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, who shot his girlfriend dead and then turned the gun on himself, at least seven NFL players have gotten rid of their personal firearms. One player reportedly turned in multiple weapons to his franchise’s security detail, “telling his team’s personnel that he didn’t trust himself with the guns.”

You know the NRA and enthusiasts would want to scare these people into believing they will get robbed now.

Idiots.

The second amendment is not about handguns or being robbed.

It is about keeping this country free from a dictatorship.

Democracies always eventually degenerate into dictatorships.

You people out there with assault rifles, good for you. Keep piling them up. We will probably need them.

You people who are handing over your guns, well you could be the first ones escorted into the concentration camps and gas chambers.

It happened in Germany, don't think it can't happen here.

No, but if I were them, I wouldn't advertise the fact that they have no guns now.

Home invasions really are increasing haven't you been watching the news?

The only way your gun is going to save you from the government is if you blow your own head off before they come to get you. Otherwise you can have a million guns and that will not stop them from taking over which is basically what the 2 amendment was actually about. Stopping armed revolution, not enabling it. Check out Addams writings on it.

The government is supposed to work for the benefit of the people did you forget that?

If they are not doing that, it is time to end the government.

The second amendment is for the purpose of taking out a government gone wrong.

Keep your assault weapons people. Don't be sheep.

If the government does not do its job for the benefit of the people, then it is not the government.

I think the people will know a dictator when they see one.

And when the next mad man comes along and they have no guns I will sit back and let them defend themselves and laugh at them the whole time! Spineless people are not hiding behind me! My *** is not bullet proof!

money and fear have long sense been the weapon of power in this country,,

we are far from that ever changing

good for those turning in the guns, although it is common sense that they not personally advertise it

we are worth much more to a western capitalist government alive than dead, and we are far too in love with violence and convinced to be fearful to ever be a gunless society

but fewer guns is never a bad thing in my eyes,,,

its actually a right to 'bear arms'

self defense does not require arms(guns)

and

rights are meant to be tempered with common sense

as the right to free speech doesnt allow you to scream fire in a crowded theater,,,

And guns are not a right to the private citizen by the 2nd amendment anyway.

A "well regulated militia" is not any dork on the street.

You'll laugh? Did you sit and laugh after you heard about all these children being killed? Or about all those people killed in Colorado? That's pretty sick.

That's an awful way of thinking. Of course people don't deserve to die just because they do not have a gun.

The hell it isn't.

It is "the private citizens" who create "well regulated militias" anyway. But the government hates State Militias, and does their best to break them up, spy on them, etc.

You don't bring a knife to a gunfight.
