You not wrong,ms Rose....Dating has to do with folks that re in a relationship fixing a time they hang out, eat, drink and stuff....you can't date who you don't know ....online date is just an invented cyber-terminology use to portraying the possibility of folks being in a relationship without meeting each other for once...... Nice ? Ms Rose....

thank you for your perspective, Solace... I'm getting a better understanding of the overall online dating experience, and I enjoy the forums more...

This is somewhat confusing, but I need to know the reality of it… what exactly is online dating? Is it really even possible?

I thought dating is going out together to eat, the movies, etc… and if you’re into casual sex, that too… but… I just can’t think of posting on forums, emailing, phone calls, but never meeting face to face as dating… am I wrong?

Is there really such a thing, and if so, how do we go about doing it?

"Online dating" is just meeting people through a site like this. The actual dating part is in person.

As for knowing how to date? I didn't realize it was something you had to know how to do.

I was referring to any particular habits that might be practiced online, that would vary from real world dating, but I have come to the conclusion after reading everyone's difference in opinions that these sites are more for interacting and getting to know each other before making that contact towards wanting to meet face to face. And of course sharing and venting via our writing/posting...

I, too, am searching bigger cities, rather than my home town. Kept
saying to people how I'll only end up moving out of town anyway, due to
my town being almost bankrupt. Everything is going out of business
around here. Not gonna be worth salt to stay here.

that sux... I wish us both a lot of luck then Sarah...

I know, right? Quick, throw some salt over your shoulder. laugh drinker. If I have to move, I'll miss going to the dock, where my grandad sings on a boat in his male voice Symphonia Choir.

Dating is actually spending time with a person in person. Online dating is just Online friendships. You can not date a person just by being Online. laugh If you have phone conversations in getting to know one another that way, for a future meeting I would call that a date because often times couples live far distance and are truly interested in one another. But you have to meet inperson for that official date.

Got it... flowers

For me, it's still real world dating, as it happens in person. This is just another way to meet people. That's all.

Yes... lots and lots of very interesting people... that we are fortunate to have online access too, as apposed to back when we had very little options other than what is in our immediate surroundings... I must say, even with the negative experiences associated with it, the positive ones definitely outweigh in favor of...

A woman... you live in a heavily populated area don't you? I live in a small town... Statistics are more in your favor than mine... to meet someone of the opposite sex that we'd like to get to know... but, I am definitely not a dating expert... so I could be speaking out of turn...
if it sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about, just tune me out..

geez how many times do I have to answer this!!! YES I know how to date. I have been on a lotta them

1. get drunk (he's buying)
2. steal his keys
3. drive his truck too fast (offroad if possible)
4. go for a swim in the river (he'll follow, trust me on this)
5. sing country songs real loud together (he'll do it )

Doh. I forgot to answer the actual question. I think we all have our own ways of dating. My version is the way I've always done it. Slowly. Well I was born in the eighties, so my way is probably a bit more traditional than the more modern fast-paced "Marry me tomorrow, have kids the day after, and divorce by the third date". shocked
