The most common reason is that they aren't confident in, or are outright ashamed of their appearance for one reason or another. Others, especially women, have had creeper/stalker issues or feel they get too much superficial attention if they have a photo up, and/or would just prefer to interact with people based on their personality without any influence of how attractive they are or aren't. That probably covers about 95% of them, and I can't think of much more that wouldn't fall under some variation of the above, besides fake profiles and/or someone posing to be the opposite sex for whatever reason.

can i suggest another reason?
when i first started this site i didnt upload photo until recently,it was because i didnt know how to upload..

Why when people sign up for a dating site or a social networking site they don't upload a photo of themselves?
I've seen people I know on some dating sites and don't want them to know I'm on the sites. People love to gossip around here and distort things.

I just don't take pictures of myself. It's not low self esteem, it's just something I don't do. (I don't have a cameraphone)

Here's a pic of me at a tournament. I'm in the brown jacket & hat.

I can't get my picture to load. Any suggestions? It is on my computer. I clicked Browse and chose the picture but when I click on Upload the box goes blank.

One reason is because they aren't sure what the date site is going to do with their photos, or what the scammers on their sites are going to do with their photos. You have to have some trust in a site to trust them with a photo of yourself, and from what I have heard, the vast majority of date sites are just scam sites.

Yeah, sometimes people feel more comfortable with a generic pic of themselves just doing something, like the one you show.

Or post OLD photos of themselves...that's pretty dishonest. If a pic is over a year old and it's your primary photo, it's probably not quite representative.

Some people are private. I know of school teachers and cops for example that would not post their pics on here. I respect their privacy.

when you click on the picture you want to upload does it show the numbers or something that is ready to get uploaded? Sometimes you have to click on it more than one time until really it grab it then you can click the upload button another thing is that after all that it might be that the picture is too big to upload

I'm hesitant to post a pic on here cause I have a very stocky/muscular build. Most people form opinions on first looks, without even knowing they do so. People think I'm either intimidating or just plain dumb as a rock due to my build. On the contrary I'm a soft spoken gentleman, good features with average looks, who graduated college with a 3.74 GPA and would like someone to get to know me on a personal level first.

Allow me to point out the obvious....

Most people don't post a pic cause they think that they are ugly and it will frighten off potential mates....as well as buzzards and hyenas....they ain't all wrong.

Some people are just butt ugly...c'est la vie.

We are focusing on those that don’t post a pic as if they can’t be trusted, but how can trust those with pics on their account to be truly the person we are talking with. It doesn’t take much to grab a bunch of pics from Google, Facebook or even old sites like Myspace and use them instead of your own. Just because there is a pic on their profile doesn’t mean they are any less at wanting something to hide.
