Who cares about the first day of school, her heath is more important. If the fever is not breaking get the child to the hospital. There could be something more going on that you do not know about.

This morning her fever was at 97 which is I guess considered a low grade fever, which is not good either?????
I let her go because the fever had gone down. I called the school nurse and they said to NEVER send the child to school within 24 hours of a high fever. They are going to pull her from class and check her temp to make sure it's still down and or determine if she is ok to stay. I have contacted her Doctor and made an appointment to get her in. I probably should not have let her go.indifferent

Whisper I guess you didn't see my previous post about midnight that her fever had gone down from 103 to 99?

The school has to say that  But, I probably would have let my son go if he felt ok and the fever was down. I'd still run her in, though, just to be on the safe side.

Glad to hear things are better.

The school nurse just checked her and it's up from 97 this morning to 97.9 so I'm hoping it will level at the normal 98.6.
She called me herself and said she feels a little better so I'm somewhat relieved. She is having a great day at school otherwise and says all of her teachers are great. I'm so glad she didn't have to miss her first day.

Thanks so much everybody for your input and concern.flowerforyou

hmmmmm the er for 103 temp????laugh laugh laugh

Try the tylenol

no cold bath because that will make her temp go higher due to the shivering will cause her temp to go higher

A luke warm sponge bath is best

Light clothing.....do not cover up with tons of blankets....just lightly....

Check temp every couple of hours.....more tylenol....

We just got back from the Doc. Lungs are clear, no strep. Fever spiked back up again yesterday after school so I made her stay home today. Fever at the Doc's office 100.9, so Doc says no school until fever goes away.
Some unknown virus is causing it, but what's worse is her normally very mild asthsma is now flaring up. Nebulizer treatments every four hours, tylenol, soup and rest. This poor girl is more worried about missing school, than anything else. What a trooper.

big hugs to you angelsing..no matter how old they are we still worry eh?I'm glad the rest of these good folks have a hundred bucks for the ER.YYou did the right thing by calling her DR and getting her in.I ran 103 degree fever with a unknown virus myself when I was a teen.My mom rubbed me down with isoprocpl alchohol and gave me tylenol.I went to the DR.just to make sure I didn't have an infection.
The ER is overused as a DR in my opinion.

Thanks cute. I'd been to the ER so many times during both of my kids childhoods only to be sent home for luke warm baths and tylenol. I know a fever is the bodys defense but I get so scared when fevers get that high because of the possible damage to the brain. All you can really do is get it down with Tylenol or Motrin, baths, and remove as much clothing as possible from the child. Yes, no matter how old they are we as Mom's still worry and always will.ohwell

Awh thanks rockermom, so nice of you. We've go a bit of a long road ahead because of the asthsma, but we've got tomorrow and the weekend to recover.
It's funny, I made a hugh pot of chicken soup a week and a half ago to try to prevent this mess.laugh
My sister said, are you out of your mind making soup as hot as it is.laugh
Well, my kids at every morsel of it, and tomorrow hot or not, I'll be making more. There nothing like home made soup when you're sick.

alcohol is no longer recommended, as it can penetrate the skin.

i'm sure she'll be much better, viruses suck!
