Self serving commentary at its finest.

Did anyone else consider him to place at all?

How about the others? Anybody have a favorite among the Republicans at the debate?

What about the Thompson wild card. Will the dark horse win?

Thompson has the best sense of humor, is the best speaker and looks the most presidential of all the candidates. He will win and probably take his second term in a land slide. He's not beholding to Bush et al, so he will attack their failed policies to raise his numbers among the liberals. He will be hawkish to hold the conservative base. Unless someone can find a juicy scandal, the presidency belongs to Thompson. This is all my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

You just like him because he has a smile that looks just like the frog smile in your picture.

philosopher,

Sounds like you are living in fear of the "green tide".

Ha Ha.

I think Thompson sounds good on the issues.

I liked Mitt Romney too but I'm not so sure he's not just a little bit pusillanimous on the Iran issue. He speaks well.

McCain was a little more low key than either Romney or Thompson, which might not be a bad thing. He has clear vision about international relations and I like his hard line against torture.

Huckabee sounds good too, a likable fellow, but I am not so sure he can generate the needed momentum.

Ron Paul, as always, looked like a fruitcake, not to be confused with looking like a fruit, but still he needs to get with the century.

Was that Ron Paul, I thought Ross Perot had put on a little weight laugh Frankly I see on one on the Republican trail that I am warm and fuzzy with, I see several on the Democratic trail that scare the hell out of me.

Fear not that things are as bad as they can get, rather be terrified that this is the best they will ever be laugh

OK, Spider, I'm taking your opinion with a grain of salt, just like you suggested.

"(Thompson) looks the most presidential of all the candidates."

Every time I've seen him in the last year, he looks like he hasn't slept in weeks. He honestly looks 80 years old. Actually, he looks the LEAST presidential of the Republicans.

"He's not beholding to Bush"

Every interview he does, he goes out of his way to claim admiration for Bush, and how he(Thompson) would not only have done everything the way Bush did, but would do his best, if elected, to continue on just like Bush.

Can you say "Recipe For Disaster"?

With an approval rating at around 25-30%, Bush is NOT who someone who wants to be president should be emulating.

One man's opinion here.

Go to www.fred08.com and tell me that he doesn't look presidential. If you are talking about the bags under his eyes, I'm sure you said the same thing about Bill Clinton, right?

I think you are just making that up, I haven't heard anything like that and my son and I have been watching Fred Thompson on TV and on You-Tube to see what his positions are.

“We probably have more cynicism toward our leadership than in a long time,”... “How do people follow when people don’t have any confidence in what is said and who is saying it?”

That's an obvious vote of no confidence in Bush (and Congress). But I think you are reading more into what I said than I meant (as usual). I didn't say "Thompson will attack Bush at every opportunity", I said he's not beholding to Bush. Thompson isn't the VP, so he can freely attack Bush for the things he thinks Bush did wrong. He can also freely compliment Bush for the things that he did right (and there were somethings that were done right). Just becuase Thompson supports our war on Terrorism, that doesn't mean he agrees with all of the tactics. I think you would be hard pressed to find Republicans who believed that Bush hadn't made mistakes in Iraq. Even those of us who are glad we are in Iraq and think it's the right thing to do acknowledge that mistakes have been made. We should have used more troops, the surge has shown that.

*sigh* You can't teach the unteachable.

yet another indoctrinated one wearing the Bush-colored glasses who thinks what he's told to think. Talking to you, Spider, is like talking to a brick wall, except the wall is smarter, and a better conversationalist, at that.

Sad, really.

Oh, and Spider,

Yes, Bill Clinton did look like that....AFTER eight years in office. If Thompson looks like hell NOW, imagine what the ole boy would resemble after 8 years. Crypt-keeper, anyonelaugh ?

knoxman,

I could choose to be rude like you, but I'm better than you. So I'll leave it at this, I criticize Bush a lot. I think he has made many mistakes and also supported some very bad legislation. Because you are a liar and got called on it doesn't mean that I am a die hard Bush supporter, it just means that you lied about what Fred Thompson has said. That's all it means.

You could be rude like me?

Let's see. You called me a liar. Oh, but that's not rude because YOU said it.

Spider, your double-standards are astounding. You really CAN come up with an excuse for anything, can't you?

You've got what it takes to be a successful polititician.
You twist other's words around.
You constantly misquote yourself.
You insult others, and when they retaliate, you take some imaginary "high road" and lyingly swear that YOU don't engage in such acts.
You accuse others of lying, then offer exactly ZERO proof of a lie.

Oh, one final point.
"I'm better than you".
Not in this lifetime, pally.

knoxman,

Bill Clinton was 46 years old when he was elected. Fred Thompson is currently 65 years old. In this world, people get older the longer they live. And one of the side effects of getting older is that your skin sags, wrinkles and loses elasticity while your hair greys. I believe that explains the difference in appearance between the 46 year old President Clinton and the 65 year old candidate Fred Thompson.

Oh, Spidey, at least I have guts enough to put my picture up here. I'm no Brad Pitt, but at least I ain't hiding behind pictures of FREAKING FROGS, fer cryin' out loud!

knoxman,

Prove that you didn't lie. Show me a quote of Fred Thompson "claim admiration for Bush, and how he(Thompson) would not only have done everything the way Bush did, but would do his best, if elected, to continue on just like Bush." as you put it. You can't, because you made that up. In this world, we call making up something LYING. You are a liar. No big deal, so am I.

"You constantly misquote yourself. "

Only according to you.

You have no grounds for your arguments, so you decide to attack me. How surprising!

I gotta think Thompson looks better than you are allowing Knox.

First of all, his age and the bags under his eyes, that's a hell of a way to judge a man. What happened to the content of his character rather than the color of his skin. Your comment was really very shallow. I can assure you a young drug addict might look better but have no other redeeming characteristics.

He speaks very well and has a good understanding of current events. I'm not wearing any glasses here. I'm listening.

I also don't see him harping on Bush. What I see is an independent evaluation of issues and a free ranging manner of thought, bringing the issues together.

McCain is not exactly a pretty boy either and has been just as well on Bush's band wagon, if not more so, and yet I don't hear the same commentary regarding McCain from you here.

Perhaps you would suggest that the only likely Republican in the batch was Romney because he has 'the look'.

Clinton has a country hick sort of look if you ask me. But then he redeems himself somewhat by speaking well. When someone speaks well people listen. If people are not listening but instead they are concentrating on appearance they will be passed over by people with better minds. Ask any girl with big breasts when she gets the promotion you missed.

Now I'm not saying Thompson is my choice of the group. I'm just suggesting you haven't given him a fair shake.

My only think against Fred Thompson...he had his fan club kicked off the property of NBC when he was doing his Leno bit.

So cloudy, did you develop an opinion about the original question in the post? Who was the walk away winner?

I really wasn't trying to start any sort of personal argument with this post. I just wanted some other people's opinion on the outcome of the debate.

As I see it the press really didn't do a lot of reporting about public opinion as to who did well.

I keep hearing that McCain did well. Lots of people are saying Thompson was smart to make the choice for the Leno show, which must mean that it was a smart choice, which must mean that he has some intelligence. Logic is so cruel.
