“we have neither heating nor cooling...we live in the elements as they are, and acclimatize to them.” God I wish I could do that here! It can get down to about –20 F (-30 C) in the winter here and that doesn’t even include the wind chill factor. It’s kind of hard to acclimatize to that. ![]() I have no choice but to burn down the forest to keep from freezing. Well, actually I use dead trees and I have enough property that I can keep warm just by burning what dies naturally. But it still puts smoke into the air, my eyes, and my lungs. Beats freezing though! ![]() |

Hey Wench-
Please don't get frustrated. It can be difficult, when you are trying to do the right thing and you can't figure out a way to do it. But small changes can be very beneficial. I already posted most of the ones I use in the other global warming thread but here they are again... For me I did a few things- replaced my washer and dryer and light bulbs with new highly efficiant ones when the old ones began to fail, insulated the water heater, and most importantly (because it is warm all year where I live) I put in a digital thermometer on my A/C to use it more efficiantly, put up thicker curtains to block sun, had low energy films applied to all the windows to reduce heat input and increased inuslation. I never water my lawn and have low maintenance landscape so those I didn't need to change. I try not to drive more than necessary but it can be difficult here- our public transportaion is not the best. Luckily, I knew I would always want to go to the beach so I chose to live relatively close... I try to reduce and reuse and recycle where I can, eat locally grown foods, etc. really it's not so difficult... But the main thing is to look at your own circumstances and try to pick what works best for you. Feeling frustrated and guilty doesn't do anyone any good and may even increase your body temperature and as it's summer you probably don't need the extra heat so please don't bother... ![]() |

Automobiles with 17 gallon gas tanks suck in 200,000 gallons of air between tankfuls. Imagine the amount of carbon monoxide and other poisonous gasses put in our atmosphere by all those cars. And that's not including the ones that are not in code with the state laws for emissions.
Asthma, Bronchitis, eye problems, ear infections, nasal cancers, skin cancers. This filthy air we grace our children and planet with. Kat |

Kat-
Yes, I agree, for those who do not accept that human actions play a part in global climate change- what about making the changes to use less energy to put off the health hazards you mention... or even just to save money... I'm pretty pragmatic on this... I don't really care why they do it, just that they make the changes! Just use less- less energy, less water, less stuff... whenever possible... |
