Topic: Teacher fired for racist comments | |
---|---|
From CNN:
A Texas teacher was fired Friday, one week after sending racially charged tweets about incidents in Ferguson, Missouri.
Vinita Hegwood said in a statement that she was "reacting to a series of threatening and racist attacks" made against her and her "expressed opinions on Ferguson, Missouri," when she wrote on November 7, "Who the (expletive) made you dumb (expletive) crackers think I give a squat (expletive) about your opinions. #Ferguson Kill yourselves." Later that evening another tweet appeared, saying, "You exhibit ***** behavior, I'm a call you a *****. You acting crackerish, I'm a call you a cracker." Hegwood is African-American. Yep, racism is still alive in the USA, as seen in the comments made by that fired teacher. |

I sympathize with people who don't have the sense to restrain themselves on twitter, and I would defend this woman on that basis. I've said some really stupid things when angry or upset, things I regretted and which I didn't believe. Not racist specifically, but still hurtful and irrational.
I can't say if she's really racist just based on the two tweets I read. But then, the race baitors and so-called 'anti racists' won't hesitate to demonize their targets based on a couple of tweets. People say stupid **** when they are mad. |

I'm surprised the union allowed the termination.

I have to agree that people say stupid things, especially younger people,,, but rarely things they don't feel or haven't learned somewhere,,,, whatever 'stupid' things may have happened from my mouth in anger never included racial slurs,,,,its not how I feel |

I agree too. Firing her was an over-reaction unless she had previously done similar things.
If Eric Holder was still AJ he would come here and show them what real racism is. Oh, I forgot. blacks aren't racist. ![]() |

unfortunately this is a public era
if one is using social media, it impacts their 'brand'... how they are viewed and in some jobs how one is viewed publicly does impact the job as well teaching is one of those jobs ,,don't know all the facts, but if she was easily identifiable or associated herself with her employers on any way in that media,, she opened the door for their actions to release her ,,I feel sorry she lost her job cause its rough out there, but I do understand why she lost it,,, |

And then the unwashed masses wonder why this country gets dumber by the day. But as to the racist remarks, why not. It was her private life and had nothing to do with the lack of morals or ethics with the ability to teach. After all that isn't a quality required in today's world for those that have major influence on our future generations. |

I'm surprised the union allowed the termination. Yeah, too bad see wasn't in New York where she would have been sent to a little office in a nondescript building where she would have drawn full pay with promotions until she collected her ample pension. May isn't the statist organization so magnificent? |

And what would what I say in any way have anything to do with I believe very little of what you say, hence the propensity to chime in and say so. And as to the last statement..... |
