If someone here asks you for your email to chat there what do you say? I don't know the protocol but I said can you give me your email first because I usually don't give out my email due to spam. Is that being smart or just being paranoid?

it's just fine , as long as you don't give personal details like your bank account number or visa cards details ... ( which you will not do for sure ) .

valid emails are worth much money to marketing companies... all scampers will want to get your email. and some unknowing love sick saps... but it's about $10 USA dollars received for each 100 valid emails sold on the open market.

I'm just wondering if there's scams where people want your email. I only give out my email when I have to sign up for for an account. Also I feel it's like giving out my phone number... women aren't supposed to give out their phone number to guys all the time..any advice from other women who are looking for a serious relationship only? I think I won't give out my email though..and if someone doesn't want to chat here then that's their problem. I guess I'm paranoid.

If you are too worried, then you should create a new email for this type of activity only. Not only it makes you feel a little secure but you get to separate your personal and work to this [more] personal activity.

I guess I'm paranoid. you can easily block unwanted emails , you have the full control over your inbox , it's different from giving your mobile number where some people can really be naughty and disturbing

I have found that my gmail has helped filter out some emails from scammers by helping identify if they are typical phishing mails....so, it was a blessing in disguise. I have separate email addresses for business and social purposes. You could create a new one to keep the activities segregated.

The person who wanted my email, he said his reason was because there are so many fake people here. I told him that's my reason for not giving it out. I haven't heard back from him since.

I definitly do not give email...not just spammers but I think that a lot of information about you can be found out by giving out email address.. this is kind of creepy to me...last night one guy told me he knew who I was when I told him I am not comfortable giving out my email address...

Its kind of like the same thing.... if they truly have an interest they can chat just fine on here until you wish for something different. many say they don't go online much. I tell them if you can check email, you can see messages on here. good for you to be careful.

Back to the original topic..this person wanted to know if I had yahoo email because they have a chat feature, I told him to give me his email first and he did, but then I changed my mind and asked him why we couldn't chat here if that's alright with him..but he says that he doesn't like chatting here because there are so many fake people...that's when I told him this is the same reason I don't want to give my email out...and he never replied back. Later when searching for other matches I found another person who has the same profile picture as him and I messaged them both saying why are you being fake?

Sounds like you saved yourself some grief. Scammers try to get you off the site very quickly by suggesting an email.

Trust your gut! Unfortunately, there are many spammers online. It is easy for them to pretend they are someone who they aren't.
