What? You mean everything on an internet site, blog, 'news' story isn't factual or true?

lol, anyway

I came across an interesting 'what was fake on the internet this week' article, one that I'm sure is amongst many,,,,

here http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-intersect/wp/2014/12/12/what-was-fake-on-the-internet-this-week-kitten-killing-christmas-trees-and-malia-obamas-pregnancy/

the list includes clarifications to the 'fake' news including:

1.Harvard Business School professor/Internet villain Ben Edelman did not send racist e-mails to a Chinese restaurant

2.Home Depot Christmas trees (probably) do not kill cats.

3.Illegal loggers in the Amazon did not cut down the “world’s oldest tree.”

4.Michael Brown did not brutally assault and rob an old man on camera

5.Malia Obama is not pregnant.

6. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton didn’t die.

7. McDonald’s is still serving overweight customers

its both fun and scary to see how easily media has made it to misinform, while seeming completely 'credible' (and who knows, maybe this 'what was fake article' isn't credible either)

Thank you. Doesn't it feel good to tell the truth? Why don't more people do it?

oh,, we could have a whole thread on the topic of 'truth'

is it abstract, based in perception, stemming from some subjective place

or is it concrete, based in black and white, stemming from a concrete reality?

lol

many people lie and deceive intentionally

many just believe what they perceive and others accept it as truth or not,,

but when it comes to 'news',, I do wish they were held to a higher standard of accountability for the information they spread around

Michael Brown did steal cigarillos and Eric Garner was selling cigarettes but neither crime is punishable by death. Our real laws only authorize use of deadly force when the threat to the public or the officer is equal or greater. Excessive force is a legal term, and is not allowed. The passing of these cases to the grand juries is clearly sweeping their murders under the rug. Hopefully their lives weren't cut short in vain.

Truth is absolute, you can deny it all you want but the truth remains to be true whether you want it like it or not. Opinion is different, opinion can change but truth cannot. One person can change their opinion on something but they cannot change the truth, all they can do is disguise their lies.

interesting, I tend to agree regarding 'truth'

I do believe we use the term too widely to make complex situations seem more simplistic and absolute,,,,

but nicely put,,flowerforyou

Toids.... Who's doing the passing? News is only as reputable as its source or the source's financier. This message has been brought to you by_________. Think about that.

Agreed. Also we unfortunately live in an age where anyone is an authority on anything. Even factiods are supposed to be short little known factual statements. The biggest problem we have as Americans is that we don't speak or write in English. Slang and shorthand aside, you can manipulate a statement greatly by changing the order or misusing words. Then there's just flat out lies. Did you hear that Melissa Ethridge and Tupac had a baby? I think Rush Limbaugh adopted it.

It's never what's stated but what one believes and the perceptions and evidence that can be applied to ones "logical" interpretation of the events in question

"News" is increasingly resembling rumour and gossip these days. Sloppy misleading uninformative reporting. Journalism is dying.

I just read an article about someone making glitter pills so your poop would be glittery. Turns out the glitter is in fact packaged in pill form, however not to be eaten. It is simply a decorative novelty. The writer of the article even went as far as attempting to twist the clear description and notice on the glitter pills website. Its no different than what Fox, CNN, or any other big news corporation does.

Kinda like I heard... Kim kardashian said god made her gain all the weight while carrying her child ... really true or false ... if she did say it ...I say good thing she believes in god ...he might just save her from her own silliness ... shakes head ...
