So, an unstable drunk jeopardized his family, by refusing to own his actions.
No sympathy for him from me.

not really about "him", where is his family supposed to live now? they are the victims here, not the stupid drunk...

The drunk should have had enough concern for his family's health and welfare, to have better thought out the consequences of his actions.

Suicide only assists the process of natural selection.

People use drugs and alcohol for many reasons. For some it is simply a social passing, for others, and I speak from experience, it is a coping mechanism that can become habitual very easily and destroy your life if the cause is not treated.

I am a Nam Vet. Returning home was not the glorious parties in the street as those returning from WW2 enjoyed. We were spit on, called names, had things thrown at us.... and came home with our crutches already well in place.

There was no PTSD treatments or even an understanding for many years after our return. Agent Orange was ignored, even denied, as well as the many symptoms that accompanied it.... often not even revealing itself until years after our return.

Addiction takes many forms, has many excuses and reasons, and few will admit the problem and seek the help needed to overcome them.

It's a sickness that needs to be dealt with medically, not by SWAT units and police in most cases! When you are trapped in addiction there is very little self control....even to make court appearances.

This is abuse of power, ignorance and intolerance, and could have been dealt with in a much better fashion than a Ruby Ridge, Waco scenario causing yet another family disaster and loss of life!

Excuses are for the weak willed, and the weak minded.

Idiot drunk's family have most likely been long-term recipients of public assistance. HUD, most likely has the family lined up for another subsidized apartment.

Tell that to the veterans I deal with most every day, and the hundred or more who commit suicide on a daily basis as their coping mechanisms, medical care and country fails them

It is ignorance that creates the problem by labeling a sickness a weak minded, self inflicted problem.

The human psyche deals with phobias by various means.... drinking, drugs, sex, reclusion, suicide, smoking, etc, etc

It is ignorance and intolerance refusing to "get involved, understand, or accept" the cause of a problem that gives it longevity..... much like racism or other ills the world is prone to in its arrogance and PC thinking..... refusing to address the real issues in our society...and help, rather than ridicule

Somewhere it is written: "Judge not, less ye be judged"

It really, really seems like overkill to me. So many agencies involved and not one had officers who could find an alternative way to have a more peaceful resolution to this! That's just plain amazing to me but it sounds like none of these agencies have had the proper education in how to properly diffuse this type of incident. It really sounds like a repeat of the Waco, Texas incident. What ever happened with using skilled negotiators! Moe is right in that the family are the true victims here and all these governmental agencies should be held to some large degree of responsibility.
