From visiting other websites , I gathered the general consensus that we are a bunch of rich , spoiled brats that always demand we get our way.... or else. The truth is hardly that way , most of us have to find a decent job , work hard and live our lives with that line of thought if we wish to do well, or pretty much survive . In this thread, I'd like to get the opinions of different cultures than our own and see what the rest of the world truly thinks of us

Don't get me wrong , I love my nation and I'm glad to be born here (except Obama -NOT a fan of his policies) . We were made out to be very arrogant and self -centered and I suppose we are a little self centered . We live excessively to a point. I talked to a co-worker who was an immigrant from Viet Nam , she thought the streets would be paved with gold when she first arrived and the skyscrapers were one occupant dwellings . No , America is not that..

I'm an American living in Seoul, and while I can't say that I'm well-traveled (yet) so far, some of my colleagues have really done their part in encouraging the negative stereotype. A female I work with got upset out in the city because no one spoke English. We're in Korea- they don't have to speak our language- it's our job as foreigners to try and do our best with THEIR language.
There's a joke I heard once that sort of makes light of this: What do you call someone who speaks more three languages? Trilingual. What do you call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual. What do you call someone who speaks one language? American. Sooooo true. |

I believe the general population in the U.S. struggles like the rest of the worlds population. The U.S. citizens' are take pride in their country, like the rest of the worlds population does in the home country (This is a natural attachment and feeling for people and their home land.). Your present President Obama has many great ideals in wanting to help the U.S. population in areas that many votes see a lack of support (No individual is perfect regardless of their public position in society.) and these voters showed there support for these issues. People forget it seems that opposition has a lot to do with how progression is achieved. One only needs to look through " HISTORY " and see the importance of what has transpired in a global society. Every super power in "HISTORY" has risen and fallen. DOES THE U.S. population BELIEVE THE REST OF THE WORLD THAT HAS SHOWN SUPPORT OVER YEARS OF PEACE, believe these supporting COUNTRIES WANT THE U.S. TO FALL OUR OF FINANCIAL WEALTH. How many countries does the citizens of the U.S. believe that the rest of the world including the U.S. want's another GREAT DEPRSSION to ocurre. The majority of today's society could not survive in a depression. Also look how many large cities in the U.S.; and around the world. How they were built. Part of the problem is laws' around the world are not the same and this is a great cause of the subject matter in this thread. I see the concerns you are asking, but people around the world are in greater need and we cannot get them to listen to reason, because of the need to SURVIVE. |

In the past people admired this country genuinely but these days it's more feared and hated.The USA used to use its soft power of diplomacy to help the rest of the world but this changed with the mantra it's either with us or we bomb you. The world has diverse people's and cultures and nobody not even the mighty USA will change the citizens of the world into its likeness. It's time the USA accepted unity in diversity. |

In the past people admired this country genuinely but these days it's more feared and hated.The USA used to use its soft power of diplomacy to help the rest of the world but this changed with the mantra it's either with us or we bomb you. The world has diverse people's and cultures and nobody not even the mighty USA will change the citizens of the world into its likeness. It's time the USA accepted unity in diversity.

The citizens might not even know what their government does on their behalf. It's like in a family where the father can not force everyone else to do his bidding, his way or the highway.
