If God is a loving God, as you say, then why should you fear him? That seems like an intimidating one to me? Your mob trip yourselves up all the time and then throw quotes from the bible at people who don't hold your ideals?

Hhhmmm!

I had this discussion one time with a friend. He kept insisting that God is a loving God and that people should be taught to love HIM and not to fear HIM.

The Bible has the answer to this controversy. Does God's loving nature stop HIM from being ONE to be feared? The Bible teaches us to both love HIM as well as fear HIM. HE is a loving God and is also a God of judgment. Matthew Chapter 10;28 is reproduced below:

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

I once had a pastor/wonderful singer. In between sermons he would sing periodically. I heard him sing, Oh LORD, you are terrible...so terrible in your ways... Yahweh...Yahweh...

At my own level at that time, it grieved me that pastor would sing of God as a terrible God. Much later, I dived into Bible study and found in the Bible itself, where GOD HIMSELF DESCRIBED HIMSELF AS A TERRIBLE GOD! I also saw other parts of scripture where God is described as a terrible God. Then I realized I had been wrong.

God's show of love towards us does not take away HIS right to be feared by his own creatures. We must love the LORD our GOD as well as fear HIM.

God bless you. Amen!

There is another example of fear. When your mother let you wear her best belt, an heirloom piece of clothing, because you are a young lady now and no longer behave like a ruffian, then you went out and played football and accidently broke the belt. You may fear telling your mother, not because you think she will beat you, but because you know it will hurt her that you did something you knew not to do and destroyed a gift she gave you that was important to her. When God tells us how to behave it is because He loves us. We fear the correction when we disobey in the way you usually apply fear, but because He loves us so much and is so good to us, we understand that correction is for our own good and never as severe as the consequences of continuing that wrong action (like when your mom slaps back your had as you go to touch a hot pot on the stove. Her slap is much less damaging than the burn would have been). We fear disappointing Him even more as we get older and raise children of our own because we understand how much more disappointed we can be with those we love and are closest to. And mom's eyes in the back of their heads are good but not as good as God's ability to know everything.

God created us. He loves us. He is an AWESOME God.
We fear His omniscience (all knowing) and omnipotence (all powerful) because of OUR failings (sin). We love him for His mercy, grace and charity (love) He shows us all the time. God is good!

without fear, there could be no love. For if no love, what is there to fear? The context's of the verse(s) statements by God are in fear of upsetting, disappointing, disobeying, ect God. If the love is not there, one would not have that fear.

Personally, I would like to share that there are two prominent reasons (amongst several), why I will follow/serve GOD to the end and will give up ANYTHING that is capable of interfering with my relationship with the LORD:

1. I believe God's word and know from HIS word, that HE so loved me that HE sent HIS only Son, JESUS CHRIST... that believing in HIM, I will NOT perish but have everlasting life. God having loved me so much, I owe HIM my love too. The only way I can display that love is to accept/follow Jesus Christ and OBEY God wholistically, not in part. Living in line with the Bible is obedience.

2. I CANNOT cope with an eternity in hell fire...I DO NOT want to spend eternity in hell fire... I DO NOT want to spend my eternity where the devil will be. The mere thought of burning in fire without end horrifies me to my bone marrow. I DO NOT want it!

Now I know from God's word (the Bible), that unless I go by the path/way that God has told me to go in His word (the Bible), HE will have no apologies about casting me into hell, where I DO NOT ever want to go.

So, for these reasons (mainly) and others, I WILL OBEY GOD AT ALL COSTS, even if it is painful to me or even if it does not suit my fleshly desires. My love and my fear of God form the basis for my relationship with HIM.

You fear HIM because HIS judgment is impartial (Romans 2: 1-11), HE is a loving GOD who never want us to perish but to have everlasting life (John 3:16,17). HIS MERCIES kept us that we are not consumed (Lamentation 3:22,23), and He is a consuming fire Himself (Hebrews 12:29).

Please, do not get upset at my post. We ought to fear HIM and obey HIM. Having the fear of God would make you flee from all sin and evil and pursue righteousness and live a Holy life for HE has commanded everyone to repent of their sins (Luke 13:3), and HE is Holy (1 Peter 1:14-16).

Many churches in the world today are not preaching or teaching their followers how to fear God and escape His wrath like Noah escaped (Genesis chapter 6,7,8,9). And God is not happy with this present generation as I saw it in the revelation last year (the wrath of GOD is coming down upon the disobedient ones).

There are men and women in the Bible who had the fear of God. Nehemiah was a man that had the fear of God.
Nehemiah 5:14. Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the King, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.
Nehemiah 5:15. But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; but so did not I, because of the fear of God.

When the children of Isreal were multiplying in the land of Egypt and the Egyptians were grieved because of the children of Isreal and the King planned evil against them (Exodus 1:10-13).
"And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then shall live.
But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive." (Exodus 1:15-17).

Moses was also a man that had the fear of God as he encountered God at mountain Horeb.
In Exodus 3:1. NOW Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burnedwith fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5. And he said, Draw not high hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6. Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

We ought to fear God and depart from evil.
GOD BLESS YOU!

Have none of you ever realised that YOU, might be wrong and I could be right? Take humans out of the equation and all your left with is the laws of nature? Add one human though and you have good and evil all of a sudden? If you want to do good, that's yourself that makes you do that and the same if you do bad? We ourselves make that choice and it's called free will. Now good day to you!
