Some college students have revealed one place in which institutional racism may be hidden - in college fraternities.

A chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity was abruptly shut down as a result of a gross act of racism. Here is an excerpt from a FoxNews.com report on what happened.

The University of Oklahoma announced Tuesday the expulsion of two students identified as playing 'leadership' roles in the racist chant that was caught on video that led to a fraternity's banishment from campus.

President David Boren said in a statement that the investigation is ongoing and once other students are identified, "they will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action."

Boren has been swift with his condemnation of the video and banished the fraternity from campus. The students were likely expelled for violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination. The video, which was posted online, shows several people on a bus participating in a chant that included a racial slur, referenced lynching and indicated black students would never be admitted to OU's chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

The last sentence in that FoxNews.com report should not be overlooked. The sentence states, "The Greek system is largely segregated."

Could the segregation in college fraternities have something to do with racism within the fraternities?

The Christian Science Monitor has a story out about acts of racism committed by other college fraternities.

BloombergView.com has a story out about how black college athletes still encounter racism at college fraternities.

CNN.com columnist John Sutter asks, "Are frats 'a form of American apartheid'?"

Washington Post writer Terrence McCoy has a column in which he reports on the institutionalization of racism in college fraternities.

TheAtlantic.com writer Terrance F. Ross has a column titled "A Brief and Recent History of Bigotry at Fraternities".

Apparently, "institutional racism" is the name of a problem in the collegiate Hellenic world that fraternities dared not speak ... until now.

its everywhere(not to this hateful extent)

through most of frat history it has been a classist (financial class)vehicle, and class has been very strongly correlated to race during american history ,,,so,, thats that

, however, frats are a prscious vehicle for many

it does allow for networks to be formed where as people can reach out to EACH OTHER, when they may be shut out elsewhere,, for references, resources, and support,,,

and basically, these guys were pretty foolish,,,,,if you wouldnt want your momma to see it, you shouldnt do it where people may have CELL PHONES,,,,,smh its a public act and will be judged by the public

that video was ridiculous, wtf is wrong with people who cares what color your skin is, we're all people. the thing I would like to see is those same people do that chant when theres actually a black person around. everybody nowadays are closet racists, when theres no black people around they talk a lot of smack. soon as some black people enter the room funny how theyre feelings change. good for them they should be kicked outta school.

if they were singing a song, then how is that racist? blacks hear a white guy say the "n" word, and go ballistic, while throwing it in just about a third of rap songs... i saw the video, and they were very foolish to be doing that, but you do bring up a point here...

Institutional racism. Don't make me laugh. More like institutional self pity.
Some people love to be the victim. Neurotic mentality.

There must be institutional racism or blacks wouldn't be in the state they're in. Look at black neighborhoods, they're poor. Then look at how many black men are in jail and black moms are single. It's so obvious that it has something to do with slavery first of all, and racism in the institutions and everywhere else. Seriously, I had an asian manager tell me to follow the blacks in the store and he was also sexually harassing me as well. This happens daily in USA.

So, the the black men who are currently in jail are there because of slavery, and the black women who are currently single moms are that way because of slavery.

Now that is what I call "faulty reasoning".

people create their own problems, then try to blame someone else... we all have to try to live in this world, blacks are no different from me or you in that regards...
