Two days ago, Mr. Buhari of the All Nigeria People’s Party was elected as president of Nigeria. I am waiting for our Nigerian members to give us some details. Meanwhile here is what is on the news and the net.

Goodluck Jonathan has conceded defeat. His party the People’s Democratice Party of Nigeria d been For the first time a two party

Brief History
1865 Abolition of Slave Trade by the British
1900 Britain’s formal declaration of Nigeria as Protectorate
1960 Freedom
1967 Civil War begins - 30 months leading to a breakaway segment joining Cameroon
1970 - Military Juntha Rule - Back-to-back military coups
1999 Single party rule for last 18 years - People's Democratic Party of Nigeria - also assisted by rigging elections

2010 President Goodluck Jonathan appoints Professor Jega as the Election Commissioner. The Professor vowed to reform the electoral process to ensure free and fair elections. To do so he studied all prevailing methods and mechanics of riggers and rigging

1 April 2015 Mr. Buhari wins the elections (President Jonathan has conceded defeat - a historic act in N.)
In his public appearances, Mr. Buhari has vowed to fight corruption

Factoids:
Abuja - Capital; Lagos & Hartcourt major port cities
Nigeria has a GDP that is ahead of South Africa (oil is 40% of GDP)
Oil - 12th largest producer; with world’s 10th largest reserve
Last year 216 girls were kidnapped by BokoHaram - no trace of them yet
Largest population in Africa - around 160 million (one in four African is a Nigerian)
English is the official language - since there are 3 main native languages with 521 dialects spoken
Religion 50 - 50
Life expectancy - 52 years
Education - School attendance 30%
Food: Spicy, aromatic - ground nut oil & palm oil fried
Sports - Football (basketball - has an Olympics team)

Factoids wouldn’t be complete without Nigerian Scams. The one thing that emerges from these scams is that Nigerian women are probably the most alluring women in the world.
(A few years ago, I received a photo; most captivating)

Now I understand Nigerian scammers have gone into other businesses leaving the door open to entrepreneurs from other countries. Wikipedia has fascinating details.

Finally, Nigeria is projected to overtake GDP growth rates of BRIC nations beginning 2025

The older and wiser we get; we become more skeptical.
If I were a Nigerian under a military government what options would I have had?
shivers my timbers; just imagining.

I think it's a victory for young Nigerians.

Back here in Nigeria the reverse is the case...

BEFORE THE ELECTION....

JEGA inec chairman have been accused of being partial ..

like in the North...under aged voterz where registered...they share voterz card to everybody whether you are of age or not....all the northerners that are in the east went home to vote in their state....but the easternerz that returned to vote in their own state where disemfrachised...they were asked to go back and vote where they registered..but the northerners where allowed to vote...

back here in the east..inec denied many of the so called pvc..thounds did not get theirz..even me was unable to get mine...

Goodluck the current president is not from the east but from the south south...but because south south sided the east during the BIAFRAN war....they were also marginalized like they do to the easterners...

before the election..MASSOB (MOVEMENT FOR THE ACTUALIZATION OF THE SOVEREIGN STATE OF BIAFRA PROTESTED THAT JEGA THE INEC CHAIRMAN SHOULD RESIGN..OTHERWISE...ANY ELECTION CONDUCTED BY HIM WILL BE NULL AND VOID...BECAUSE HE WAS ACCUSED OF TRYING TO FAVOUR BUHARI BAY ALL MEANS...PETITIONS HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED TO HIM CONCERNING THE NORTHERNERS REGISTERING CHILDREN AND HE TURNED IT DOWN AND REFUSED TO LOOK INTO THE CASE...

HERE IS A COMMENT MADE BY EX MILLITANT CONCERNING THE ELECTION

www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/north-s-west-ganged-up-against-n-delta-dokubo/

THE ELECTION IS NOT VICTORY FOR DEMOCRACY BUT A REGIONAL CONSPIRACY TO DORMINATE THE DEFUCNT STATE OF BIAFRA..AND THE SOUTH SOUTH...

I KNW PEOPLE OUTSIDE NIGERIA WILL ONLY AGREE TO WHAT THEY SHOW THEM BUT INSIDE NIGERIA THERE IS A PROBLEM..

NIGERIA FOUGHT AGAINST THE IGBOS DURING THE WAR..(NIGERIA CAUSED THE WAR)

DESTROYED ALMOST ALL THAT IGBO PEOPLE HAVE GOT..

igbos are not interested in becoming president again...they just want to live and walk free...

in the NORTH THEY KILL IGBOS LIKE CHICKEN..IF THEY COME TO YOU AND YOU WHERE UNABLE TO RECITE KORAN...THEY WILL KILL YOU...NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT HAVE NEVER ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE...AM NOT EVEN SURE IF THE WORLD KNWS ABOUT IT OR WANT TO KNW...AFTER ALL..BRITAIN, RUSSIA, CAMAROON, EGYPT, NIGER ETC JOINED HAND TO FIGHT BIAFRA (A THREE MONTHS OLD COUNTRY)

AMERICA WAS NUETRAL

AFTER THE WAR ALL THEIR MONEY WAS SEIZED...AND EACH WAS GIVING ONLY 20POUNDS....IN XCHANGE TO WHATEVER YOU HAVE IN THE BANK...AS IF THAT WASNT ENOUGH....WE HAVE NEVER BEEN GIVING THE CHANCE TO RULE NIGERIA....AN IGBO MAN WILL INDUSTIALIZED NIGERIA AND TAKE IT TO GRATER HEIGHT....NIGERIA IS STILL UNABLE TO ACHIEVE WHAT THE BIAFRANS ACHIEVED (BUILT DURING THE WAR)

IF THEY SAY NIGERIA IS ONE..WHY DO THEY ALWAYS PASS POWER FROM HOUSA TO YORUBA..AND THEN TO HOUSA AGAIN...GOOGLUCK LOST BECAUSE HE IS FROM NIGER DELTA...(BIAFRAN)
HE ENTERED ASO ROCL BY CHANCE...BECAUSE YARADUA DIED..IF NOT HE WNT..

GO AND CHECK THE MAP OF HOW THE ELECTION WENT..CHECK WHERE BUHARI WON AND WHERE GOODLUCK WON...ITS CLEAR THAT THE NORTH AND WEST IS GANGING UP AGAINST THE OLD EASTERN REGION...

LET IT NOT BE A SUPPRISE TO THE WORLD IF THE PROPOSED HAND OVER WNT WORK...BIAFRA WILL BOUNCE BACK...

here in Nigeria Igbos dnt need and are not interested in Nigeria again...but Biafra.

That's some inside story.

To summarize for those of us outside:
Mr. Jega, the Election Commissioner is a Northerner
And the North has voted overwhelmingly while the East were denied V_cards
And President Elect Mr. Buhari belongs to the North

To add to the problem,(from what I now understand)
Bia-fra in the South who tried secede from Nigeria & join Cameroon in 67 (& was suppressed in the civil war '67 - '70)is Christian.
The East is neutral & the North, Muslim

So Pres Goodluck handing over the government to Mr. Buhari is like
handing over from a moderate government to a conservative (religious) govt.

And now you are worried for the Igbos of Bia-fra.

Thanks Dave, a lot of the past in Nigeria (including the period of military rule) makes sense now.

uhm actually Biafra never tried to join Cameroon....they wnted to be independent...

The south where Goodluck is from was fighting along biafran then..but later backed out...

Therez alot of crude oil deposits in the East and the south.....when Obasanjo was the president..he once tried to wipe out all the men from the south...because they questioned him on why the Government is only interested in their oil but wnt develope anything in their land.

Bakasi penisula (it has the highest crude iol deposite in Nigeria)...is also biafran..but Gowon during the civil war...promised the Cameroonians Never to allow Biafran to buy any food or weapon...through their land...and Gowon promised them that he will give them Bakasi penisula.....after the war Nigeria wnted not to give it to cameroon but after cameroon won in court it was givin to them.

Buhari after he lost in 2011 told Goodluck he will make his Government ungovernable....and He really did it.

Ok lets take the abduction of chibok girls...back here we(Igbos/south south) believe it is a scarm and Buhari is aware of it..it was meant to criticize Goodluck's Administration...

Here is the prove:
when Dam Patient Jonathan called on all the mothers of those claimed kidnapped girls...ONLY ONE WOMAN SHOWED UP. The first lady asked her so only you came...where r the others? How can such number of school girls be kidnapped and only one woman is interested in answering the first lady's call on how to get those girls back.
That made the first lady to CRY ON TV....

The school principal was unable to provide accurate information on the said chibok girl.

Boko haram has always had igbos/christians as their main target. bombing churches and the buildings owned by easterners in the north

IF BUHARI THINKS HE CAN AND WILL SAVE NIGERIA..WHY DIDNT HE SUPPORT GOODLUCK IN THE FIGHT AGAINST INSURGENCY?
Buhari after he lost...in 2011 made more than 800 people to loose their life. He have succeeded in Making Goodluck's Administration to look bad..

He is now preaching peace? Because he won through coruption.

What did he do to support Goodluck's administration since 2011...just that he openly threatend to make Goodluck's government ungovernable.

If the north can say "its the north for presidency in 2015 or no Nigeria"
cant they do anything humanly possible to achieve their aims?

Dave,
The way situation is being described; its all gloom & doom.

You also mentioned that Cameroon went to court & got Bakasi peninsula.
A court? Would be interesting to know the details.

you knw after the war..Nigeria wnted to back out on the agreement they had with Cameroon which is: THAT CAMEROON SHOULD HELP AND BLOCK IGBOS FROM GETTING ANYTHING (FOOD, WEAPON) THROUGH BAKASI PENISULA..AND THAT IF THEY SUCCEED..THEY WILL GIVE BAKASI PENISULA TO THEM..

bakasi penisula is close to Cameroon but they were biafrans then...so Nigeria was afraid Cameroon could let Biafrans have access to the Outside world through there...thats why Nigeria blindly signed an agreement with them..

But when nigeria won the war...they wnted to refuse not to give bakasi penisula to cameroon...But Cameroon already have a signed Document of the agreement they had during the war with Nigeria...

Thats how bakasi Penisula was lost to Cameroon...not with standing that the people there are nigerians...they were forced to be cameroonians....

UN Report Exposes Widespread Boko Haram Atrocities
Lisa Schlein July 01, 2015 10:24 AM

GENEVA—
A damning report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights graphically details a pattern of vicious and widespread atrocities committed by Boko Haram militants in northeastern Nigeria and neighboring Cameroon, Chad and Niger. In an update at the U.N. Human Rights Council of Boko Haram violations, the high commissioner condemns also reported abusive treatment of Boko Haram victims by Nigerian security forces and regional authorities.

The report shows violations committed by Boko Haram remain as extensive and far-reaching as they were when the U.N. Human Rights Council held a special session on the atrocities committed by the militant group in April.

Interviews by U.N. staff with former captives and survivors of Boko Haram attacks in northeast Nigeria present a distressing picture of horrific abuse stretching back months and even years. They include massacres, the burning down of entire villages, torture and abduction on a massive scale, including of children.

U.N. Human Rights Chief Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein said survivors in Nigeria have given anguishing accounts of mass killings of men and boys gunned down or hacked to death by Boko Haram before the female inhabitants of villages were abducted.

"Women and girls have been sexually enslaved, raped and forced into so-called 'marriages,'" he said. "Many survivors of these horrific experiences are now pregnant by the rapists. It is vital that the authorities ensure that every person who has been responsible for such crimes will be held to account in a court of law."

The high commissioner described the suffering endured by citizens of Cameroon, Chad and Niger over the past year from Boko Haram's pitiless attacks on their towns and villages.

Security forces blamed, too

While condemning these actions, Zeid said he also is concerned about allegations of serious human rights violations committed by the Nigerian military forces. He expressed dismay at reports of ill treatment by Nigerian and regional security forces of adults and even children who had been held captive by Boko Haram and subsequently freed. Zeid said they often are subjected to lengthy periods of detention without charge.

"I must insist on the need for greater attention to human rights by both the military and the police forces in concerned countries when carrying out security operations against Boko Haram," Zeid said. "Failure to uphold these principles could jeopardize recent successes against Boko Haram by driving more people into justifiable mistrust for the authorities."

Acting Foreign Minister of Nigeria Bulu Lolo reiterated his country’s call for the international community to redouble its efforts to end the menace and evil perpetrated by Boko Haram.

"Boko Haram’s pledge of allegiance to ISIS is a wake-up call," Lolo said. "It means that another link has been added to the terrorist chain that now connects other international terrorist groups such as al-Shabab and al-Qaida."

The Nigerian minister warns the association of terrorist groups has wider implications for the peace and stability of not only the sub-region, but Africa and the world at large.

And his prowess & killing just continues --- nope, not quite utopia and a far-far cry from a civilized society...what will it take to stop Boko Haram - no more humans to slaughter! noway

That seems the way that Africa is dealing with their #1 terrorist and America just keeps pouring our foreign aid down that rat hole!
Gee, but Bobo Haram is putting all those funds to good use [heavy sarcasm}

Witnesses: Boko Haram attacks kill 145 in northeastern Nigeria
By Steve Almasy, CNN
Updated 4:54 PM ET, Thu July 2, 2015

(CNN)—At least 145 people were killed after Boko Haram militants raided three villages in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno, witnesses said Thursday.

The Islamist militant group's attack late Wednesday in the Kukawa fishing village killed 97 people, resident Kawu Aisaye told CNN.

A senior Nigerian military official confirmed the attack, adding the military conducted airstrikes following the raid and is sending troops to assess the damage.

The official was unable to provide details about casualties.

A lawmaker in the region, Mohammed Tahir, told CNN that Boko Haram killed 48 people and injured 11 others Wednesday when the militants stormed two other villages near the town of Monguno.

Boko Haram, which loosely translates to "Western education is sin" in the Hausa language, is classified as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department. It has been brutal against civilians and authorities alike as it tries to impose its extreme version of Sharia law over an expansive territory.

Residents of Borno state, which borders Chad, and other parts of northeastern Nigeria know this all too well. For years they have dealt with Boko Haram assaults, bombings, abductions and mass kidnappings -- the most infamous being the taking of more than 200 schoolgirls in the town of Chibok in 2014.

Earlier this year, Boko Haram pledged allegiance to ISIS.
