how convenient that you only print a portion of the whole artical....especially leaving readers, to find out for themselves, the findings of the Pew Research Center poll...

i found it very interesting to know that raising the fed min wage to $10.10 per hr is
favored by 73% of All americans...favored nearly unanimously by Democrats & Independents....and surprise...favored by 65% of non-Tea Party Republicans...

another quote from the artical....... (my typing bcos i don't know how to cut&paste what i want people to read)

" in a deeply polarized country, the minimum wage is one of a small handful of issues that gets broad bi-partisan support " wrote Daniel H. Pfeiffer, who until recently was a senior advisor to President Obama, in an email in response to questions. " The Republican problem of opposing the minimum wage grows much worse when paired with their support of tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. The 30-second ad writes itself. "

looks to me like everybody wants to do the right thing and raise it up....except the obstructionist rascals of the Tea Party Republicans...

Again... it is not mandatory to work at McDonalds. They ( and other fast food establishments) do not grab people off of the street and force them to work. They put a sign in the window.. the people come in.. they (fast food place) tells them of the job description, hours and PAY. The applicant then has a decision to make. Do they accept that offer.. or not. If not, they leave.. if so, it means they understand the job, time and PAY

We all have worked in those type places when we were kids..as our first " real job"...then we moved on...I worked in a ice cream store when I was in High school... I can not ever remember saying to myself " I'll put my 20 years in here giving people banana splits and then retire"

don't like the pay.. then by all means.. don't take the job

Maybe not but paying the rent and buying food is...Sometimes s**t happens in peoples lives that forces them to grab whatever job they can to survive.

When minimum wage goes up, ALL prices of goods and services go up in direct proportion. So, you are still the same amount of broke at a higher wage. What you should do is spend your time trying to find a higher paying job instead of protesting the low wages of your unskilled labor position. The ONLY WAY to improve your financial outlook is to earn substantially more than whatever the minimum wage may be. I don't know why people have such a hard time grasping this simple concept.

So, you are saying; "It's popular so it's the right thing to do."

I disagree with this notion.

I also believe that attention should be given to multinational corporations and the laws surrounding them before attacking small businesses.

You want to fix our economy...

Enforce our own laws on imports,
Refuse to accept imports from slave and child labor,
Tax imports that are subsidized from other governments,
and drastically lower American Corporate tax rates (as we have the highest rates in the world).

Increasing minimum wage puts pressure on small, developing businesses. Not to mention, potentially drives up the cost of living thereby defeating itself. One could argue that this, in fact, helps big business by eliminating potential competition.

WOW...this image on FB got so busted {as all the assumption do} for her miscalculations of a 'BURGER MASTER' getting a 40hr work week; so in order for her calculations to be accurate {which they clearly are NOT} there won't be any way in 'GODS GREEN EARTH' that any of those part-time employee's at any of those current minimum wage jobs suddenly become FULL TIME STAFF!

Can't believe that this has been the #1 issue and yet many able thinking humans just keep regurgitating rhetoric that has nothing to do with that FACT! The only people in any of those 'FF' joints that get the full time hours are the ADMIN - yes, those higher ranking/salaried personal that are eons above those grunts; who are working 'SHIFT' hours and do not {repeat for effect} DO NOT get a 40 hr work shift week. EVER!!! frustrated

But carry on with the bloviated/misrepresentation of a 'FF' workers time and money and keep making those ASSumptions of who/what/why they work where they do as if they've nothing better to do then scrape by and still ask for assistance!

You can't have it both ways; you hate them for needing assistance and you despise them for wanting a fairer wage --- GOOD GRIEF!!!

its not hard to grasp its just not always reasonable to do , or possible to do before the next time you or your kids are hungry, or the next time a bill is due

I believe a profit tiered minimum would be reasonable, there is already a limit/minimum an employer must be making to be required to pay the minimum wage,, but I belive the billion dollar corps should have a higher expectation

the old excuse about passing prices on is just a way to justify their own greed in paying ceos out the wazoo and wanting to keep more to themselves for their cushy lives while their 'unskilled' workers working their behinds off everyday are made to feel they should just settle and accept the crumbs

Oh my youve convinced me....hell, frick $15/hr, lets raise the min wage to $20/hr.....you know what, hell lets make it $30/hr! Flatscreens and Cadillacs for ERRYBODY!
To hell with profit margins and labor costs! Business owners are big ol meanies who only want to screw over the lil guy!

Am I doing it right?

They flip burgers for Heavens sake......

And "misrepresentation of FF workers time"? My last visit to a BK involved me waiting at the counter for a couple of these "poor wittle workers" to finish their damn conversation, including a glance my way, and a return to said convo, BEFORE finding the time to help me. Excuse me for not wanting to repay their ineptitude with more money.

Btw, cute pic....Im sure MomsRising.com doesnt have an agenda.

I eat at fast foods occasionally and have yet to see anyone working their butts off. Most "workers" seem to be having a good time. The ones that do seem to be working are the ones that don't speak english.

wow, what an interesting perception

I have had a job where I had to be on my feet all day , working through rushes, in a hot kitchen,, to the casual customer feeding their face maybe its not hard work if I smile and seem to be having a 'good time',, but trust me,, it is

flowerforyou Hmmm, if you're willing to stand there and allow piss poor customer service to be provided to 'YOU' then who's to blamewhat When you could've/should've spoken up; why would you allow yourself to be treated in such a shoddy manner? When that isn't reflective upon the business as a whole or shouldn't be and I would want to know if those were 'MY EMPLOYEES'! grumble

But to take that ONE EXAMPLE and wage a LABOR war against the entire nation seems highly stilted to the issue - doesn't it?

until recently I refused to have a cell phone, I just am not interested in being that plugged in or having anyone with that type of constant access to me,,,plus I don't want a monthly bill for something Im not really interested in

which makes 'looking' for a job while already on a job kind of difficult,,,,

I have tracfone, it's cheap and I use it very little. Most of the better jobs i found through friends or family. Some jobs that I had were hard work but I didn't go back to minimum wage work.
