NEW YORK - After 33 years and 6,028 broadcasts of his late-night show, David Letterman is signing off.

The transplanted Hoosier, who made Top Ten lists and ironic humor staples of television comedy and influenced a generation of performers, is hosting his final episode of CBS' “Late Show” on Wednesday. Stephen Colbert will replace him in September.
Letterman announced his retirement last year and has kept details of his final show under wraps. The show tapes in late afternoon at Manhattan’s Ed Sullivan Theater and airs at 11:35 p.m. Eastern.

His last few weeks have been warmly nostalgic, with Letterman entertaining old friends like Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Anticipating the end, viewers sent Letterman to the top of the late-night ratings the week before last for the first time since Jimmy Fallon took over at NBC’s “Tonight” show and they competed with original telecasts.

I'll miss this goofy dude; and I'm hoping that Stephen Colbert will be every bit as excellent as he's been on his own show...but still there won't be anymore 'DAVE'...tears

I can't believe nobody here says they are interested in watching David Letterman tonight. He is an American icon.

Yes he stopped after the live confession. By the ratings, many have tuned in & haven't slept with him since.

Who really knows; that's one of those 'between the married people' type of questions! Not my monkey - Not my circus!

I always enjoyed this gapped tooth crazy dude; he didn't have the charming handsome good looks like Johnny Carson and I found that highly likeable for a change of pace...that and his skits were just really good. He gave a lot of young comedians a start on their career path and I've enjoyed all of them as well...I'll miss him.

I'm guessing because humor is subjective. I'd rather see someone like Dave get his own show than people like Honey Boo Boo.
