Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50 .

Because of the number of times that I would moan about the 'LACK OF A SENIOR MENU' when I was able to take my mother out for a treat...the new manager at my IHOP told me to keep asking each and every time we came in! And that got me to wondering WTF did happen to that wonderful option and why it just gradually disappeared several years back!

All I ever knew was a discount for public transit. Which I don't need. But people have to register for it, & carry a card.
That is for 50+ & or a disability of any kind.

The menu: Are you referring to 'The blue plate special '? I haven't heard anything about that at all,anywhere.

Well, I'd not heard it called that in years; here in the mid-west it was the 'Senior Menu' and it was priced accordingly since the serving sizes were small - like a youth plate special.

Mom and I could order 1 regular menu special and ask for an extra bread plate to share our meal...that often brought out 'eye rolls' and muttering from waiter staff! But hey - we always tipped 25% regardless! Just annoyed the hell out of me that the 'Senior Menu' option just quietly slid out of our customer awareness and no one told us about that issue!

Here on the East Coast it was served on a ''blue plate', and there were 4-6 choices of (regular sized) plates, BUT it was earlier than the dinner rush.
They then started calling it 'Early Bird Special'. And it was for everyone. NOW,completely gone. I find that sad.
Many people had loved have dinner at 4:00 pm & it was an outing to them & cheaper too.

WOW...TY, had no idea that 'back East' there were actually plates that were BLUE; once I started caring for handicapped/elderly {career change after husband was dying from cancer} I found that the elderly have the worst 'NIGHT VISION'
Even though their eye-sight still might be 20/20 with corrective lenses it's that inability to see as the dusk sets in and night blindness is horrifying for them.

Hence the reason that we see so many 'white haired crowd' out at such an early time; now with so many restaurants struggling it's a wonder that they have 'STOPPED' the Senior Discount/Blue Plate Special offering!

Hummm the Best Western this says 40% off not true more like 10% off just checked yesterday on a room and it was 10% off not 40%...

I've booked the rooms for my son and his family; and I've getting the discount rate...but I go in person and have always done it that way - never over the phone!

Not sure I just looked it up online which said you had to have Id for proof when signing in.. I have not booked it yet but will next weekend and will make sure I call and ask them to see... But I know online through their site the price I got and the one I got after I put in 55+ was only like 10% off of the main price...

Hmmm...I wonder if there is a difference between 'chain/franchise' and privately owned?

Because now I'm not sure that this local one we've used in the past is part of the huge 'CHAIN/FRANCHISE'!
