You were an inspiration to me during one of the hardest times of my life...
You died for a cause many would not dare suffer for.

"Tie A Yellow Ribbon Around The Ole Oak Tree"

I'm coming home I've done my time,
Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine,
If you receive my letter tellin' you I'd soon be free,
Then you'll know just what to do, if you still want me, if you still want me.
Tie a yellow ribbon `round the ole oak tree,
It's been three long years, do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon ,round the ole oak tree,
I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me
If I don't see a ribbon `round the ole oak tree.
Bus driver, please look for me `cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see,
I'm really still in prison, and my love, she holds the key,
Simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free.
I wrote and told her please tie a yellow ribbon `round the ole oak tree,
It's been three long years, do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon `round the ole oak tree,
I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me,
If I don't see a ribbon `round the ole oak tree.
Now the whole damn bus is cheering and I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons `round the ole oak tree.

Thank you so much for sharing this I will admit I had never heard of him before and well he deserves this tribute and so much more. I went a bit more and googled him to learn a bit more. Your country is so blessed to have had this man.

We don't have enough of him to go around...thank you for taking the time and effort flowers

I have a few youtube videos of him in the "documentaries watching" thread in the "movies, TV, and books" section. His opponent, contemporary and close friend, Ferdinand Marcos was also an intelligent and strategic politician. They both wanted the same thing for the country, but sadly had very different ideals as to how to achieve it...

This was a good documentary for me to watch. I've seen the entire movie couple weeks ago. Thanks a bunch for sharing the link and everything else I couldn't find about the father. Great story, great man, the story of a brave man.

Some current politicians can be heroes too, if they choose to be. drinker

When do they learn that martyring heroes is unleashing the people's passion into growth?
It is like watching a dog chase it's tale for centuries.
Thank you for sharing Panstilly...brokenheart :heart:

Not many would willingly walk into certain death to uphold an ideal. Everyone wants to come out a "winner" nowadays...

Cool tribute OP

Pacificstar, that song has been his themesong and tribute ever since i can remember.

I remember seeing the trees with yellow ribbons tied on trunks and branches since the 80s. It has been their family's and the nation's insignia for hope, freedom and courage ever since.

The symbol for the Marcos regime was red, the Aquino, yellow. Everyone holding rallies and protests on the streets wore one color or another. Both were toe-to-toe in their respective political stance. Ferdinand Marcos was undoubtedly intelligent, strategic and largely successful in his quest to enrich the country. But his thirst to hold on to power and the decadence he allowed his wife were his downfall. Ninoy Aquino was driven, idealistic and stood for what he knows is right. But he had been too young to run for the presidency. He was aptly the best president the country never had.

Upon his assassination, a peaceful revolution ensued on February 1986. Military personnel with guns and tanks were on one side, civilians, on the other. Senior citizens, nuns, even kids and the disabled were on the street of EDSA, some holding rosaries, some in wheelchairs, some handing flowers to the soldiers... Eventually, Marcos and his cronies had to step down and went into hiding. They know they can't force the military to take action against this peaceful revolt.

Ninoy's wife was eventually sworn into office by almost unanimous vote, as the first woman president of the country--the widowed housewife of a good man. Today, their son is our president until the end of his term this 2016. He did not betray what his father stood for.

Yellow ribbons continue to symbolize the ideal ever since.

As much as he sacrificed for the country, his love for his wife has never been more evident in this poem-made-into-song. Gotta love a guy like that...:heart:

Ninoy Aquino's Love Poem for Cory

I have fallen in love
with the same woman three times;
In a day spanning 19 years
of tearful joys and joyful tears.

I loved her first when she was young,
enchanting and vibrant, eternally new.
She was brilliant, fragrant,
and cool as the morning dew.

I fell in love with her the second time;
when first she bore her child and mine
always by my side, the source of my strength,
helping to turn the tide.

But there were candles to burn
the world was my concern;
while our home was her domain.
and the people were mine
while the children were hers to maintain;

So it was in those eighteen years and a day.
'till I was detained; forced in prison to stay.

Suddenly she's our sole support;
source of comfort,
our wellspring of Hope.
on her shoulders felt the burden of Life.

I fell in love again,
with the same woman the third time.
Looming from the battle,
her courage will never fade

Amidst the hardships she has remained,
undaunted and unafraid.
she is calm and composed,
she is God's lovely maid.

What happened to Marcos & his wife's 'passion' with shoes is what is happening here right now with the wife of our PM and her passion for branded expensive everything.

It takes time for the truth to be revealed and who is the hero or the villain..... but time will take its time to reveal all.

(I might get hauled up for this statement...... but let's hope not cos' this isn't the normal media)pitchfork

Oh c'mon Ame...it's not just the shoes that she indulged in...her excesses covered jewelry, clothes, works of art, delusions of grandeur, and yes, even men.....and famous men wanted her too.

We read all about it, but then sometimes we do not know whether what is in the media is to be believed and relied on.

How much is real and how much is not?
How much is exaggerated and how much is understated?
