Homeowner trumps thief: Dog poop box gives stinking lesson to package thief
![]() A homeowner with a box of his dog's poop foiled a thief. This is what he left on his front porch to look like a package that had been delivered to his home. The thief is seen scooping up the box above, but the homeowner wished he could see him open it! A homeowner set-up a stinky ploy for a thief leaving dog poop in a box on his front stoop after someone was helping themselves to his delivered packages. Eric Bardo got the pleasure of watching the thief pick up the dog poop box through his home’s surveillance camera video. He only got to see the scoop and run, but how he would have loved to watch this thief open that box! According to Fox News 8 on December 14, as far as calling the police, Bardo wasn’t too crazy about the idea because that would entail him reporting a box of dog poop stolen from his porch. What he hopes is that the thief and his band of merry men get a whiff of their latest stolen merchandise and think twice about swiping a package from his house again. Bardo is new to the Las Vegas neighborhood and it wasn't too long after he moved in that the problem of his delivered packages disappearing off his front porch became a real nuisance. He installed a security camera in hopes of stopping the thief, but it continued on anyway! Apparently the camera didn’t do the trick. According to DB Techno News, Bardo's only wish was that he had video of the thieves opening up the dog poop package. He had some feeling of revenge getting to watch the thief scooping up the dog poop box for his take of the day and he is hoping the group of boys have learned their lesson. This creative homeowner got the idea when cleaning up his dog's poop in the yard and thought about putting it in a box and leaving it on his front porch. That's how the idea materialized and the rest is history! and if they are caught stealing dog poop, the still go to jail ![]() |

This story reminds me of something that I did during my first year of college, when I paid to have a Sunday newspaper delivered to my dorm room door each week.
One Sunday morning, I opened my door and discovered that my newspaper had been stolen. So, I purchased another newspaper for that Sunday and kept it intact. Early the next Sunday morning, I opened my door and replaced the newly-delivered newspaper with the previous Sunday's newspaper. Sure enough, the thief returned, only to steal a week-old newspaper. There were no more newspaper thefts after that. |

I dunno. It's fun to imagine and hope that this and other thieves "learned a lesson" from this sort of little revenge, and it's certainly harmless. But I've known more than a few people who stole things, and none of them would have been cowed by finding poop in a box they took.
Don't mean to "poo-poo" the thread, just my reaction based on having had things stolen MANY times. |
