I saw Joan Collins on TV a few days ago. As always she looked as if she had just spent 8 hours in the makeup room.......everyone was compelled to tell her how great she looked of course, but probably secretly wondered what she really looks like. Another beautiful English actress and Bond Girl from the same era is Honor Blackman, a lady who has gone from looking like a beautiful young lady, to looking like a beautiful old lady. The wrinkles on her face don't detract from her natural beauty, and her china blue eyes still have that effect on an old geezer. I like Joan very much as a person, she's a real character, but, if these two ladies ever turn up at my door with an invitation to sail down to Rio with just one of them, I know which of the two I would choose.

A lot of women like to wear makeup. There are some that think, the more you wear, the prettier or better you look. I see much, much older women that are made up with what they wore in their 20's. It doesn't work. I believe less is more. Sometimes I try a little more makeup for fun, but I like not too much for myself. Their are women that are natural beauties. I understand what you are saying.

Most women, as they get older tend to use more make-up. They only do so because when they were younger, they applied chemicals to their faces and ruined that beautiful natural glowing skin. Now to hide that screw up, they have to cover up by using more make up...all I am saying...

Meh, no point in being coy, you are what you are.

I guess the makeup is similar to a guy wearing a rug
or a 3-strand comb-over.

They too, think it makes them look better, eh?

I think makeup is silly, except at Halloween or similar. Women have been trained by advertising that they NEED makeup when the reality is much different. Monkeys, dogs, cats, and billy goats all look just fine without makeup. Humans do too.

I gotta put in my traditional alternate point of view. Not to be pushy, or say anyone's wrong. Just to add another possibility.

I don't think it's primarily a matter of people being coy about, or denying their age to themselves or others. For one thing, I don't think I ever saw a picture of Joan Collins, in which her makeup didn't weigh more than she did.

Sometimes it's a lot of other things. What people grow up doing and thinking. And sometimes I've read that a decline in perceptions can result in some people putting on more makeup, more perfume, simply because they can't see or smell how much they are using.

And I think too, that some people do think they need to pretend to be younger, or at least more seemingly vibrant than they are, in order to attract a mate, and I think that a lot of the time, the observational evidence bears them out.

But I agree with those who say they like less makeup, and less to-do in general. It sometimes puts me off. And even when I was a kid, when I saw a girl all done up, my first thought was "okay, guess I better not even think about trying to touch her; she's obviously done up to go somewhere and do something important."

I didn't know what "being coy" meant so I looked it up...

According to Dictionary dot com, the word "coy" means:

1. artfully or affectedly shy or reserved; slyly hesitant; coquettish.
2. shy; modest.
3. showing reluctance, especially when insincere or affected, to reveal one's plans or opinions, make a commitment, or take a stand:
4. Archaic. disdainful; aloof.
5. Obsolete. quiet; reserved.

So now I know. I used to have my correct age up there for everyone to know.. until recently when I got an email that was probably meant to compliment me for looking younger than my age, but inadvertently hurt my feelings instead.

Now I choose to be 99 years old. IMHO, anyone who is 99 and still has the guts (or balls) to be on a dating site... deserves respect.

So am I being coy? Perhaps... perhaps not.

What is the point?

I agree Mz. Rosie! Coy? Ain't nobody got time for that. If you feel young that's all that matters. My make up? Well I was in a rock band in my younger days and eyeliner was it for me. If I go to a party I might slip some on. My lower eyelashes are very fine, gotta make em pop! Anyhoo. I'm an ancient soul, so being Coy went out when I was 3.
