Top Scholar Says Common Core Math Is Making Our Children Really Dumb

Common core math is making our children 'dumb'

The President of the National Association of Scholars has slammed Common Core saying that its program currently implemented in schools across America is deliberately dumbing down our kids, leaving them unprepared for further education and work.

Parents and teachers alike have criticised the Common Core States Initiative program, which was started in June 2010 as part of Obama’s Race-To-The-Top (RTTT) program, saying its method of teaching and testing holds back smart students and stifles creativity.

Wakingtimes.com reports:

The US federal Government has stated that their goal with Common Core was to make all students “college-and-career-ready”. Sounds great in theory, but Peter Wood, president of the National Association of Scholars, thinks that the Common Core program is actually resulting in colleges being flooded with students unprepared to do college level work. He believes that:

“Common Core pretended that it was going to be raising standards, but what it did, in fact, is put enormous pressure on colleges, many of which are now succumbing to that pressure, to lower their standards.”

In other words, the actual effect of Common Core is the further dumbing down of America’s children.

Among other things, with the Common Core program in place, students are guaranteed entry into state college without the need to take any remedial courses, as long as they pass the Common Core standardized tests.

With standardized testing and federal programs like Common Core, which focuses mostly on math and english , there is little that teachers are allowed to bring to the learning experience, and creative teaching styles are trivialized and pushed out of the classroom altogether. It’s as though U.S. public school have now been entirely co-opted, stolen even, from communities, and no one at any level in the actual school building has a say in what students do during the school day.

What effect will this have on the ingenuity and creativity that is to come from America’s future generations?

“Common Core is described by proponents as a utopian education for the 21st century with primary, almost exclusive, emphasis from grades K-12 on mathematics and English language arts through “disruptive innovation” using the latest in “educational technological advancements”. In reality, as you will read below, it is a critical step towards the stated goals of the wealthy elite to uniformly ‘mono-mind’ the global educational system, create a 24/7/365 community at our public schools, and to develop a “from-cradle-to-work-force-ready” individual.” – Jamie Lee

Making children dumb, is the main purpose of common core.
Creating "useful idiots" to fulfill a political agenda.

Common Core Is Making Children Dumb

I believe that was occurring before common core; with the advent and societal permeation of the internet.

I know in the mid to late 90's universities were having to start offering remedial classes in business writing and math.
(I wonder if that was when attending a community college for the first 2 years and automatically transferring credits became extremely popular?)

At best common core is exacerbating an existing situation.

put enormous pressure on colleges, many of which are now succumbing to that pressure, to lower their standards.”

Colleges have been lowering their standards for a long time.
Especially when they started sticking 700 students in a lecture hall.

But they're using 6 year 4 year degree models.
Nothing like a bachelor degree taking 6, 7, 12 years.
Think of how much that is in student loans and bleeding money from savings rich parents (those naughty people shouldn't be saving)!

Governments position is debt doesn't matter.
And really, why should it?
What's the difference between a student loan for 4 years of college that a student will never pay back and a student loan for 7 years of college (earning the same degree) a student will never pay back?
Common core answer = "to get ahead, be a perpetual student, vote democrat, then work for the government!"

"I believe that was occurring before common core; with the advent and societal permeation of the internet."

I know in approximately 1975, it became mandatory for all high school students to take a literacy test.
We all laughed at it. Until an advanced biology teacher told us, there was a 16 year old boy, in the school who couldn't spell spell/sign his last name.
And his name was 'Washington'

I have wondered this myself

Wish I could laugh, but I have known perpetual students who now work for the post office & IRS.
