One way time travel is easy and has happened many times as described in the original article. Einstein's equations work and are the basis of modern physics. All you need is speed.

Backwards time travel is another story. It may be possible but no one knows how to do it yet.

The physics of black holes open additional possibilities of freezing time.

But time is just math? Afraid not. It is possible now to make one member of a set of twins an old man while the other is still young using nothing but a fast moving spacecraft. That is time travel.

no it's not... "proof" is doing it, not speculating on it...

Every astronaut has done it. Good grief, don't you know ANYTHING about physics?

Here's a little quote from space.com ... a short explanation of what happens as we move faster and slow time.

"Einstein's theory of special relativity says that time slows down or speeds up depending on how fast you move relative to something else. Approaching the speed of light, a person inside a spaceship would age much slower than his twin at home. Also, under Einstein's theory of general relativity, gravity can bend time.

Picture a four-dimensional fabric called space-time. When anything that has mass sits on that piece of fabric, it causes a dimple or a bending of space-time. The bending of space-time causes objects to move on a curved path and that curvature of space is what we know as gravity.

Both the general and special relativity theories have been proven with GPS satellite technology that has very accurate timepieces on board. The effects of gravity, as well as the satellites' increased speed above the Earth relative to observers on the ground, make the unadjusted clocks gain 38 microseconds a day. (Engineers make calibrations to account for the difference.)

In a sense, this effect, called time dilation, means astronauts are time travelers, as they return to Earth very, very slightly younger than their identical twins that remain on the planet.

when did that affect any twins? communications between the satellites showed some difference, that's all.... still not "proof" that time dilation exists..

From a different perspective...

Time can heal
They say, time will tell, so what is time?
It's intangible yet it causes us to develop wrinkles!
Time looking forward seems longer than time past
Time is precious, use it well!

I just travelled to the past this weekend ... Daylight savings .. Laughing .. The clocks went back an hour .. Seems our perception of time can be manipulated .

time is the perception...

so,Stars do not age,Isotopes do not decay?

When you look at how far we have advanced in the last 200 years, could this be the second time around ?
What will we have in another 100 years, if we don't destroy ourselves?
There is not a lot to show for ancient technology. However the Pyramids, and a lot of mighty big rocks piled up all over the world came from somewhere.

Scripture: 1st, 2nd & 3rd 'Earth Age'
And of course, who is descendent of who?

I am not familiar with 1st, 2nd & 3rd earth age but I did hear a song " I am my own Grandpa" slaphead

time and entropy are the same? time is what we use to put limits on things...

everything is recycled in the universe, time has no real meaning there, whether it takes a billion years or ten years...(our years, of course)

We are the embodiment of a time machine because we have the ability to perceive the future and the past. May I remind you, no other consciousness on earth can do that. Remembering the past allows you to change the future and vice versa, predicting(planning) the future allows you to change the past. The only moment we have is "now" because time is only a perception.

A question, if I may...Where's your proof that "time travel" has already happened or is even possible? I thought General and Special Relativity rendered that physically and practicably impossible. But you're saying that "time travel" has actually happened. How can that be? I haven't heard or read anything of our scientists discovering a way to violate physics so that time travel is now possible. Please explain.

Well their not saying it. The article does. But there is a caviot. And you are correct. As you approach the speed of light your ship requires more and more energy to keep up this speed. The amount of fuel you would need would make your ship geometrically heavy. So with earth science you can NEVER go faster than the speed of light.

Now if you speak to Dodo_David our resident alien. He can tell you how their system totally ignores our silly laws of Thermodynamics. We are after all, just silly meat bags.

Here is as positive proof as can exist. I am not sure why science is that hard to understand. There are almost infinite explanations on the net.

"Yet even as Scott Kelly ages faster biologically, he’ll age more slowly in physical time. The ISS orbits at about 17,000 miles (27,000 km) per hour relative to the Earth’s surface. In an effect of Albert Einstein’s special theory of relativity known as the twin paradox, that means time will pass more slowly for Scott than for his brother, to the tune of about 28 microseconds (millionths of a second) a day.

There’s a counter-effect, too: The ISS is about 250 miles up, where Earth’s gravity is slightly weaker, and where—by Einstein’s general theory of relativity—time runs slightly faster. (Stronger gravitational pull slows time down: If you saw the movie Interstellar, you may remember that each hour the crew spends on a planet near the massive gravity of a black hole seems like seven years to the crew member who stays behind out in space.) But the increase is only about three microseconds a day.

So Scott will become 25 microseconds a day younger than his already six-minute-older brother Mark. Over 342 days, that’s 8.6 milliseconds—a little less than a hundredth of a second. Even added to the extra milliseconds he’s already gained—he’s spent 180 days in space before, to Mark’s 54—it’s not enough, probably, to compensate for all the biological effects of living up there."

sorry, not seeing any proof... everything you just said is speculation based on a computer program...

Yes yes yes yes, by these silly rules you are time traveling. So it you had to walk 25 miles and decided to drive, yes you are technically time travelling. WA WA WA WA dull.

Time is intrinsically linked to Space. Without time we have no true measurement of that space. Every moment we exist we are traveling in time. Much like us not seeming to have electricity without magnetism we do not have space without time.

Now to go back in time would mean we would have to have a negative space and that actually does seem to exist mathematically so mathematically it is quite possible. Now physically, that is a separate matter. A single electron has the potential in its quantum state but as for a whole object as we know it. Seems unlikely at this point in the manipulation of physics.

The best we have is that ... in physical reality, everything we experience is actually a past event. Its in the past before we even realize it has occurred.

We actually live our whole lives in the past and travel constantly through this universe.
