German foreign minister criticizes Trump's 'America first' foreign policy

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Thursday criticized U.S. Republican front-runner Donald Trump for a speech in which he said it would be "America first" if he were elected president.

Trump said on Wednesday that if elected, his foreign policy would leave European and Asian allies of the U.S. fending for themselves if they did not pay more for U.S. defense measures.

"I can only hope that the election campaign in the USA does not lack the perception of reality," Steinmeier said.

"The world's security architecture has changed and it is no longer based on two pillars alone. It cannot be conducted unilaterally," he said, referring to Trump's "America first" message.

Steinmeier said international conflicts could only be solved nowadays if heavyweights like the United States and Russia and others joined forces.

"No American president can get round this change in the international security architecture," Steinmeier said, adding that this was why "'America first' is actually no answer to that".

Steinmeier also said that Trump's speech was contradictory, with the Republican calling on the one hand for 'America first' but on the other hand urging the United States to withdraw from the world: "Those two things don't seem to fit together very well to me," he said.

... laugh I can't stop laughing at the line that is forming.. Outside.

Do they think this is a people pleasing country ? Or that we want to make the world happy? Or that we are so insecure that we don't want anyone p@ssed at us?
Do these called leaders/ political personalities, actors, etc. really think, that they are so damn important ,that an outsider opinion will ,change our votes ?
Or what they want will override our wants & needs?

A Saudi Prince
Ex President of Mexico
A German Ambassador
* any one else..? *

What does that tell you... who they are REALLY worried about? Hell.. What do those names on that short list, tell you? What do they ALL have in common?
Coincidence?

So other countries having to pay for measures to ensure their own security is lacking a "perception of reality,"? It seems to me that it is unrealistic to expect another country to pay for your
countries security. Sovereignty and freedom aren't free unless someone else pays for it.

"The world's security architecture has changed" and so has the ability of the United States to "unilaterally" finance world security. "'America first' is actually no answer to" their lack of a willingness to pay for the protection that the United States has provided. It's kind of like welfare...people don't like it when the free things they are used to getting are cut off.

Germany spends 1.2% of GDP on the military, the United States spends 3.5% of GDP on the military even after spending cuts were made. How about if both the US, Germany and ALL other countries go with the NATO recommendation of 2% of the GDP being spent on the Military.

We abandon our allies Europe will turn Fundamentalist Muslim. How long do you think it would be before they are here in force??
We put Trump in and that is the future that Awaits our country and the world. The great presidents all know without allies, we are truly alone and isolated.

Agreed Reb, but imagine if we hadn't gone in to help our allies in Europe! We'd all be talking Russian or German! Your right, these fundamentalists are far from defeated. Don't ya see? If Trump goes in and forms a wall around our country, the world will suffer. I agree, alot of countries have said USA go home! Yankee go home! Having weak leadership is making these bad guys think, well we don't have to worry about a smart bomb dropping in on us while we behead these Syrians, Turks or Philippinos!
Your thinking we gotta fix our country. Your right. BUT We cannot abandon the principles that make us Americans. I realize you have the right to support who you want. Just think about the worst thing that can happen to our country. Then think once Trump is in, there's no getting him out. I garrentee something will happen and you won't be able to go back in time to set our country right!

Who in the blue Frick said I was a Trump supporter? I've repeatedly said we can't find 5 good candidates out of 320,000,000 people.
But damned if I gotta agree with some German idiot politician who is, if that dumbazz actually thought about his comments in the first place, is actually drumming UP support for Trump.

There's one thing to support allies...AND another to kiss their azz....
AND gotdam at the Trump complainers... acting like he's gonna get elected King or something. No, just president...he won't have a magic wand to wave and *poof* there's some wall.....but please, if it comes down to it...pick Hillary...that'll be SOOOOOOO great < That's last part is sarcasm, BTW.

Trump is trolling the Frick out of some of you and its hilarious watching the reaction
