and perhaps if cops havent had a gun on me,, I can try to effect change on when its actually reasonable for cops to have a gun on you , increasing the risk that you lose your life.

I get where you are going, but how it is isnt always how it should be,, and protest is one way to get out voices who dont believe its how it should be

disobedience shouldn't be a death penalty

let me clear things up

1st. I know of one town in america where there is mandatory ownership,

that town is nelson georgia and the facts are there are less than 1500 people who live there, the law only requires head of household to have a gun, and those who are mentally or physically impaired as well as those with conscientious objections are excluded'

so despite the word 'mandatory' , its far from everyone having a gun

2nd. No, criminals do not care about laws. That is why in high crime areas it makes sense to have a gun(or some type of protection). In low to no crime areas it doesn't make AS MUCH sense. When I was in a higher crime area, my husband had a gun. When I have lived in low crime areas, I have not had any gun.

3rd. I dont wish to 'take all guns' due to the very 'common sense' mentioned before. it is sensible to have a gun in a high crime area where fatality is an increased risk. It is less sensible if that is not a high risk in your community or area.

its not 'common sense' for everyone to have a gun anymore than it is for noone to

I hope you know that I wasn't "directing" anything your way.... I wasn't.... I was more directing it against the "ongoing debate", and not anyone in particular by any means....flowerforyou

I always enjoy listening to what you have to say, and learn other points of view, as depending on where one is, their way of life, and outlook may be very different. Unfortunately, mine has been different than most, due to overseas travels in horrendous areas, and here in the states at times. I have actually lost more than a few of people in some of these "disasters", and I walk right by the club in Orlando every weekend, and of-course Katrina, where needless shootings and Actual assassinations took place all over the city, by crime and cops alike, that will never be brought to trial. On the lighter side, opening rotten refrigerators and running, was an amusing thing all of us had in common, that kept us laughing...

One thing SHOULD be mandatory, is that all women (and men actually) should have a good quality mace, and should read the small but effective book, "How To Win Any Fight Without Training" by Thomas DiPaolo. It's a very street-wise no nonsense very practical book to stay alive and come out of really bad situations. About 50 pages... so it should be a no excuses read. many people know some of what's in there, but there are some other things a seasoned person would appreciate.

Weapons should be kept off the streets completely! Keep em at home if you want. IMO

that being said, I was caught in the crossfire of a shoot out and I was first on site of an armed hostage taking.

I won't step into the states again unless I can rent 2 X .45s with holster and I'd need a handbag for the clips,

let's not get too fancy, only 25 of them clips eh?smokin

...disobedience should not be a death sentence..I agree..sadly it's going to increase your odds of getting shot..not justifying it..but you don't know what the cop just dealt with..although wrong it's like stubbing your toe and you lash out at the first person that asked if it hurt...a cop may have just been involved in a bad situation...they should have more control but sometimes they don't..if you choose to be defiant you might push him over the edge..and with everyone knowing cops shoot people...I will always respect the man with a gun...good or bad..

we agree

avoidance can be as simple as going along

but not going along shouldn't justify death

when death is a result of disobedience, those mourning should be able to get justice just as much if the killer is in a uniform as if they were not

Is it fear or respect? Fear can be overcome, we're seeing this in the black community more & more, that young man who was shot in his car beside his gf this week was stopped 50+ times... 50 freaking times!!!

Crazy!

respect and fear are not exclusive'

we can respect people accomplishments
we can also give respect to peoples power

respecting someone with a gun is in the latter category and it is inclusive of fear of consequence

and yes, over 80 stops for minor infraction is ridiculous , I agree

We can't get anyone to be "Mandatory" or accept mandates, lol It again was just toward the "debate"... and I'm actually glad we don't live under those kinds of laws, for real... But it would be a wonderful thing for all innocents to be more aware, and to be safer if possible...

You live in a city where much is hidden just below the surface of those lights, and I believe you are aware of many things most would never know or see, merely by the fact that not only are you aware, but have a sixth sense of "feeling" that helps keep you out of danger. It also helps you make a wiser decision just with day to day things, and have the respect of many, due to your demeanor and wisdom, and just the fact that you're you, and have high integrity, that they care very much about you, and have your back in safety, and in life I hope. You definitely have a friend here in Nola if you don't have a few already.drinker

..perhaps fear induced respect..lol..especially when I may be guilty of a wrong doing myself...guns are designed for two things...wound or kill..unless it's a do or die situation...I prefer not to be shot ...and if a person has been in trouble with the law...try to be compliant...I like my guns ...

Showing respect and giving respect are completely different things.
But its not usually wise to point that out to a person with a gun.

Here's the thing as far as I see it. You talk about low and high crime places. Where to, and where it doesn't makes sense to carry a gun. I'm 50 miles from Atlanta. I refuse to go into Atlanta without my gun. I live in a small town. The old saying goes, if you blink your eyes you will miss it. You never hear about anyone around here getting shot or stabbed.

But you know, there is always that one time. That time when you don't expect it. Because you live in a place where nothing like that ever happens. The first murder that ever happened here was in 1968. Since that time there have been four more. Yes, that's not a lot. But what if they had been armed? They were not. All of them were home invasions. Dope heads looking for drugs and fast money. The point is, you never know when it's going to be you. It may never be you. But just because you live or work in a quiet place doesn't mean that one day you will not be the target. It can happen to anyone at any time.

The day those two broke into the warehouse where they knew there were armed guards, they knew they were taking their lives into their hands. It was a quiet area. No break in's ever before. Until that day. On my shift. They came in ready to kill to get what they wanted. It's better to have it and not need it. Than to need it and not have it.

...more like I respect the gun in his hand...unless I broke the law then I would hope the officer is a man I would respect...if he points a gun at me...and if some moron points a gun at me..zero respect...but the gun itself..commands respect..flowerforyou

I believe guns have advantages and disadvantages depending on how people use the weapons in their hands. A gun can be use for self defense and protection or for abuse and committing crimes. There's nothing wrong with possession of firearms as long as you are responsible enough in handling such weapon for your protection. In places where heinous crimes are common or are prone to burglary or any kind of invasion of your property every houses should have something to protect them in IN CASE OF EMERGENCY or when a certain situation calls for an action coz you never know who might attack you and the minds or behaviors of criminals, drug addicts, terrorist etc. are uncontrollable and unpredictable. Nowadays everyone and everywhere is not safe anymore. Even if you know self defense, what if you encountered a psycho and he has a gun fired at you, what would you do, do you think your martial art skills could protect you? Definitely no, you are just one shot maybe and you're dead. But with a gun you can give a warning shot to make someone back off and be hesitant to attack you. Well as long as you know when to fire and not to fire coz even policemen can't just shoot an unarmed criminals and even those with a gun who fired they would still not shoot but only give a warning shot unless if the criminal continues to fight back then they have the right to defend themselves and to reinforce their authority. As for civilians we also do the same with our licensed firearm. Just don't forget to get a license thoughlaugh laugh laugh or else you'll be charged of illegal possession of firearmlaugh slaphead

Good point Dolphin! When the chips are down, and it means your life, you will protect you and yours. Unlike these treehuggers, I live 1.2 miles from the most dangerous town on the planet, Cd. JUAREZ, Mexico. The reason that our sister city never crosses the line is because they know something. That the majority of El Paso Texans are "Carrying". There are some evil MFers over there. Our constitutional rights protect us even from corrupt government.
