Ok, of course,I am a male, male side on this post, no experience with Ducth, about Italians, females, my experience, they are "passionately family oriented and protective". It is part of the culture, even in the US Italian Americans. This question is for you, scepticalsoulmate, how is this aspect in your country?

Any responsible man with his head on his shoulders & focused in the right direction is family orientated & protective....

I do believe Dutch men are among the best partners in the world. NOt cos they'd be family oriented, not sure if they are or not to be honest. Nothing like the Italians I don't think.
But the way Dutch men are regarding women, the way they generally treat them and think/feel about them (respect, equality etc), I think is quite unique still. Maybe equaled in Scandinavia, not sure.
Of course you still get old-fashioned ppl with obsolete ideas here too. And even though a small country, we also got a bible belt.
But in that sense I'm real glad I am Dutch.

Isn't this a sterio type?

From a cultural standing point I do not believe so. In my culture, life pressures or stress, I feel that it pulls away families, sad but very true fact, almost impossible to keep family's together. Not what I experience on other cultures, mainly Italians, they have open their heart and homes to me. Best I can explain.

I thought it was wrong to sterio type a country or a whole race of people.

Maybe I am lost, how is this a stereotype?

This started out, "Italians and Dutch men are family oriented and protective." That is saying that they are all like that.

I was blessed with the opportunity to travel around the world, some trips short, some trips long in length and time, in some countries I had the opportunity to mingle with the locals and that I did. I experience some "culture traits". I may be wrong, I do not see this as a stereotype, as a preconceived notion, may be, clichΓ©, not, I differ.

OK. I agree, steriotype is probably not the right word. I do hear people talk about a whole country or race and want me to believe that about them. I don't do that. That is called prejudging. I look at individual people.

Well, I'm of Irish decent, grew up in a all Irish neighborhood and you were taught( and you saw thru actions and everyday life) that family comes first.. always. To love them. take care of them. protect them.. at all costs.

If you didn't " do the right thing" your family would be all over you.. from parents.. to grandparents.. uncles, aunts, Even neighbors had a right to say something to you about whatever it was, but all they were basically allow to say was " don't disrespect your fathers good name!!"

So you learned a lot about how to.. be a man

So, throw the Irish in with the Italians and Dutch .. o.k. :)

No sorry, no brother here, lol. But not to worry, there's some 17-18 million ppl in The Netherlands, I'm guestimating at least 6 would be men, so there is still plenty of choice laugh

Meh... sure every individual can be different, but when you look at a culture as a whole, you can see very strong tendencies that most everyone has. Some more so than others, that's the individual thing. But every culture has their own specific things with/from which they're raised.
American, Italian, Dutch, English, Mexican, Aussie etc. norms & values will be different from each other. And you'll find that most every Italian, American, Dutchie, Englishman etc. will have those tendencies in one form or other.
That's not really stereotyping, just fact. And yeah, there may be exceptions to the rules, but still in general, deep down, when you get to the nitty gritty, you will still find these same tendencies in 'em.

Yes it is, but this faux-pau is unintentional. Filipinos have a limited pool to choose from.
