Alot of ancient cultures reflected the stars in their building layouts, Pyramids of Giza, stonehenge, the swirling about the Kaaba in Mecca like the milk way. Do they do it because they just fancy it? Or is it because they have a deep unfathomable unconscious and possibly a soul connection to those places in the heavens up above?

Well.. back before they knew what the stars were.. and before we had all this light pollution... it must have been something to sit by a fire every night staring up into the universe... one cannot help but notice patterns..
Like the Big Dipper or the Milky Way...
So it only makes sense that they would align some of their religious buildings to reflect... what they were seeing in the heavens above...
I would imagine it would have been some way of acknowledging... that.. we see you up in the heaven and we only want to communicate with you..

Sad thing is that some of those stars you're looking at might be gone already... Take Betelgeuse, for example... They know it will blow up soon, but from our point in the universe, we wouldn't know it until 5000 years after it happens... If it blew up yesterday, we wouldn't see it until the year 7100, because of the vast distance the light travels..

I don't know if there is any astronomical dimension to Kaaba, though there is a spiritual one. Here is what I found:

"Circling the Kaaba seven times is a symbolic act meant to reflect the idea that life should revolve around thoughtful contemplation of God and His Messenger, according to Sheikh Ahmad Kutty."

It seems the only astronomical component is the meteor placed in the middle, which the pilgrims then go around in circles. It is worshipped because it fell from the sky, and the clergy then seized this opportunity to call it a miracle, a stone sent down by Mohammed who they said resided in heaven.
