Today is armed forces day here in the UK
I'm not sure about Australia, New Zealand and America.
It's a day to remember and salute all of the men and women who served and are serving our countries past and present.
Not only the things you see in the news but all the operations that go on that you don't hear about to keep us safe and to help others.
Thank you
Ps
This is not intended to be a political thread so, please, no remarks on the fors and againsts of war, it's only to remember these people.

Have a nice holiday. We had Memorial Day at the end of May in the states. It sounds similar

Yeah, here it's memorial day, a National holiday to remember the ones lost, and to thank the ones that came back... Lots of ceremonies and BBQS going on... thanks to all the sacrifices your troops made, they benefit more than just England...

Happy Armed Forces Day!

Here in the United States we celebrate Memorial Day - To honor and remember the fallen (died) that have served in the armed forces (Plus we include any fallen service member that dies on duty to their community too)

Then we have Veterans Day. Which is a celebration of armed forces past and present that served our nation reguardless of their life status (alive and dead).

Since your Armed Forces Day is for all service past AND present it is similar to our Veterans Day more than our Memorial Day.

Yes tom, I recall a thread a few weeks ago day. We also have remembrance day or armistice day November 11.
Poppy day to some, witch marked the end of ww1,
I go to a town called Ypres (leper ) in Belgium every year, the menin gate is where they have the last post played every evening at 8 pm apart from Christmas day. They have done this since 1926 I think.
