Those who are capable should serve, with the understanding that no special accomodations will be made. Anatomical males will serve with anatomical males and anatomical females will serve with anatomical females. I agree There is a thing, a real thing, in the service Military Bearing The Code Dress Right Dress It has to do with uniformity. Standards are held with high regard. There is a reason for wearing the uniform, standing at attention, marching. The reason is uniformity. "Uni" being the goal. We don't see soldiers that are hippies, farmers or bankers, we see soldiers. You look at the ranks of troops and they all look the same (uniforms), are meant to walk the same (marching) and act the same (drills). Boot camp is designed to take your individuality and suppress it in favor of uniformity. Any lifestyle that breaks the uniformity of the ranks is dangerous to military conditioning. In combat, a flair for individual expression can not only get you and your squad killed it can compromise certain operations. There is nothing wrong with personal expression but the military is not the time nor the place. If there is a problem with conforming to military standard one should not join. It is wrong to expect the established whole to change methodology that works to accommodate a fraction of the whole. In this case, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. The military is not a social group. It is an establishment of a fighting force with rules, regulations, codes and standards. Its not supposed to accommodate so you can serve, you accommodate so you can serve. Tom, too much clarity and common sense

If they cannot conform, then their squads and platoons aren't going to trust them with their lives. They shouldn't be discriminated against because of who or what they are, but if they can't be a team player, they have no business joining the military in the first place. Everyone who enlists makes sacrifices, but not all of them wear it on their proverbial sleeves. Some things may need to change in the military, but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. Some try to take short cuts only to have them blow up in their faces (no pun intended). |

I spent my time in the service of my country.
I spent my life in service of my career. I worked for others and one thing I realized that was instilled into me by my military service was that conformity. As a technician in a corporate owned truck shop I had a saying I told my guys when there was a change made from the higher ups. "If they want the garage doors painted pink with green stripes we will paint them pink with green stripes, and we will do it with pride and professionalism because they own it and we work for them." There were times when I didn't agree with the things I was asked to do. I always had the option of not doing it and accepting the consequences. There were employment opportunities that I did 'not' accept because they required me to do things I did not wish to do. There were jobs that I quit because they required of me something I refused to be. I didn't protest or demand that those companies change to accommodate my desires, I chose a different place of employment that fit me better. Just because I had the skills to do the job didn't mean I had to work for them. The military sets its standards as to their requirement. It is the conditions you are meant to adhere to if you join. If you cannot deal with those requirements, don't join. It is selfish and rude to think they should accept you because you are unwilling to accept them. Go work at Burger King but don't be surprised when they have their own rules and regulations. Sometimes if you don't fit in anywhere the issue isn't with anywhere but in you. |

Never missing an opportunity to assure us how worthless we were and how they would make fighting men out of us or we would die trying, LOL. Looking back, it is pretty comical but it was effective. Regardless which gender they decide they are. If they can pass the test according to the Military Physical/Mentally then they should be able to join.. This is nothing more then what women had to go through in order to enlist as well...then again in order to go into combat. As long as they can do the job before them that they gave their oath to maintain fully then there is no reason gender should matter.. Your not in the Military for a fashion show uniform rules must always be enforced.. Right |

Welcome to my cyber mansion. You are right. It takes solitude to service our military. A good healthy body shape. Healthy mental health, knowledge of strategic war plans, and how will you are trained should be the best candidate. So if a gay or transgender fits those criteria then Bravo Right? |
