For example, if my husband beat me repeatedly. I may forgive him. I may also have serious injuries and effects to my health that will continue to last a lifetime and which will need to be addressed.

I have no problems with affirmative action, but lets not use that to get us lazy. no applying ourselves to greatness. I can only imagine being a white guy today. wow those blacks can go to college thru red tape? where's the white affirmative action for us? Damn hell, its not fair....now jumping back to me, well America, your affirmative action is now everyday. you guys can get bank loans, decent housing, walk down the street without police intimidations, & move up in the corporate world through your own will. its kind of funny when you can have a hell of a make up artist change your race and you can see how others perceive you as they disguised.

He cuts his hair low in a crew cut he must of had a really great make up artist like the movie stars have. so they made him black. Hi well you right the power of forgiveness is king but my people will never forget. God said in scripture to put remembrance with us. It explains why we was in slavery if you read Deuteronomy 28 the whole verse. But fast forward I was born in Germany but I'm still black. In Europe we more liberal & open to everybody, gays, blacks, women, so on so on. Here in America its different.

America, I wonder if I find the best hollyweird make up artist paint me white for one week. give me a blond wig, blue contacts, and dress in a corporate suit. I apply for a very prestigious elite bankers job. I would make up a bogus resume with experiences that will win that position. my name would be Corey it would be BOB Seagal. I walk in get interviewed by on e of the elite bank mangers for the position. a week later I apply as a black man, regular me with dread locks & all. Nike Shorts, Nike Sneakers, Ball Cap to the back, & a resume with very little to almost no experience in banking. I get interviewed, wooing them with my charm. A week goes by I get a call from the banker manager and tells me Mr. EyeAm, we want you to come in our branch & we have an opportunity for you. I be like whatttt...okay how? Well, because they not going come out and say affirmative action but they would say well we need more minorities with our banking firm to stay in business. You Hired. Now3 that's where we at now with this country.

The story that I heard was about a white guy working
for a large company. He had been there a long time
without a promotion and seeing other workers getting
all the raises and Promotions. So, he goes to the HR
and changes his race to Hispanic. 4 months later he
gets a promotion with a raise. Was supposed to be a
true story but I don't know.

That's why I posted a link. This is about actress Mindy Kaling's brother that did this in the 90's and apparently is writing a book about Affirmative Action being racist

I think most of us have suspected for years that Affirmative Action is flawed. That does not mean that it's not necessary in some form. I have personally witness racial discrimination in my area....in both directions. Around here, it tends to be more prominent in the cities than in rural areas.

I grew up in a rural area. I spent most of my life living in one. By and large, most people didn't care about race because they judged each person individually. Even so, there were occasional instances where somebody would let slip their otherwise well-guarded prejudice.

In the city though, I've been called a "cracker" just because I asked someone to keep his voice down at 5 am.

It's not worth listing every other incident, but let's just leave it at the fact that my jaw was broken by a young man who couldn't comprehend how rude, insulting, and obnoxious he was to the very people he was trying too hard to befriend. Because he said, "I don't like white people" after he hit me, I could have chosen to file a 1st degree federal hate crime against him, which carries a penalty of 10 years federal imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. After my indignation cooled and after much thought, I chose not to press charges. The reasons were: 1) his age, 2) I understood his real aim, 3) I can relate to being socially awkward and frustrated, and 4) he was actually an intelligent kid who simply had a poor education. I came to realize that he needed a mentor, not more jail time and a felony on his record.

Now if this kid could learn some better social graces, he would be fine. He's got the brains. He's outgoing. He actually can be funny. The main problem is he tries too hard because he never learned the give-and-take required to build relationships with people. It's people like him that Affirmative Action is meant to help.

That kid didn't know that my ex-gf was black, or that one of my 2 closest friends was black, nor did he see just how much time I spend around black people. It's not unusual for me to the only white person at a table. I judge people by what's in their hearts. That's what allowed me to "get over myself", and forgive the kid for busting my jaw.

But there will always be people who abuse or misapply policies like Affirmative Action.

Truth is, Affirmative Action is only a band-aid. Our society really needs to address the root causes that prompted its necessity. Unfortunately, this country does not want to discuss those root causes. Both sides would rather point fingers and throw tantrums than come to a meeting of minds for mutual understanding. We need to counter the misconceptions. We need to understand how both sides came to their beliefs and perceptions. But people in this country are so angry that they no longer think it through. We need to get back to Martin Luther King Jr. He understood that anger begets more anger and violence begets more violence. He understood that when everyone is shouting, no one is actually being heard. So if we want to get rid of Affirmative Action, we first must render it obsolete by addressing the real social problems we've been avoiding.

Hey buddy yes it is flawed but still necessary. When i say this article on CNN.com i knew this would be a mega hit. My george America has done it again.....lol. As far as you living in a rural neighborhood well i can relate. In Berlin where I'm from i lived in a suburban neighborhood of Stieber Lieb which is mixed white and black Germans. Fars as America i grew up in a predominantly Spanish neighborhood. I seen the good the bad and the ugly. I seen spanish people get the same affirmative action with being bi linguistic. They would get jobs because they speak spanish. Didnt bother me .
