I remember when I was in high school..when Regan was shot my history teacher brought cake and ice cream and claimed it was a day to celebrate..too bad he lived she said..I shook my head in disgust..she asked why and I said it's not right to celebrate the President being shot at..then she said that the reason I can't get a decent grade in her class was instead of thinking with the right side of my brain I spend too much time not paying attention to what matters.. I told her she spends too much time speaking with the left side of her brain instead of teaching history..then I walked out..failed history..teachers personal political opinions don't belong in the classroom..ohwell flowerforyou

I agree. Though I do believe there is a bit of middle ground between whether teachers are using 'personal political opinions' or trying to abide by their understanding of schools regulations regarding keeping an environment where students feel safe to learn.

..I can see why a zazi symbol could make some kids uncomfortable... but MAGA..?..not remotely close..a tee shirt with BLM could make some kids uncomfortable as well..it seems that everyone is trying to support what they believe and in turn upsetting those that don't agree..people need to just quit being so sensitive and realize that we all are entitled to have our own opinions and beliefs..go back to live and let live instead of writhing in hate..ohwell flowerforyou

I say go back to school uniforms. Doesnt get any safer or unoffensive. School is for learning anyhow, not for making statements or setting fashion trends.

maybe, if they make the skirts a little longer for the girls... i've seen some of the catholic uniforms for the girls, and that isn't what a church is supposed to represent...

Well if some people get their way they will stop teaching kids history, or it will be so opinionated that it won't matter. Any president that may have owned a slave will be left out even tho it was legal and acceptable at the time. Christoper Columbus for get about that. The Indians were fighting other tribes for thousands of years before white people showed up, and the Indians were fighting them as much as they were fighting them. Tom Saywer Huck Fin, forget about that even tho they've been teaching it for years. And they might as well not teach English class. And we know science can be dangerous and go against religion so can't teach that. Instead of learning and showing how things can be some people would rather live in their own little world, pushing only their ideas and not at least letting others have their views.
well said... to bad the left has an 8 year advantage on warping children's minds

Just Fyi, in case you didn't realize it: public schools are entirely locally controlled. The agenda and the textbooks are all selected by your local (mostly Republican) state legislatures. The President has no direct say in any of it. So if you were afraid that what you are seeing around you these days is the result of Obama's years in office, be assured, it's the opposite, if anything. Blame your local Governors and other nearby leadership.
wrong again, state legislators agree on a list of curriculums that the local school board can decide which curriculum and , ( a key word here) HOW to teach it. Local school boards are mostly made up of former teachers .and activists thus making them liberal progressives. Not always but most especially in your bigger cities.
