do these machines that you stand on and vibrate which shakes your whole body to your brain give some form of benefit to the body?
and i am guessing ill be getting some weird answers here too lol.

Well I was certainly shocked at the title lol, but to answer, no, I don't think it does much except give you brain damage or plays havoc on your joints. Now that the serious answer is over, let the fun begin!

Came running in when I heard a vibrator..
Really we're talking about foot massagers..
REALLY!!!WOW.. do you have any idea how far I had to run to get here..lol..omg..
I miss the good old days when somebody said vibrators they were actually talking about vibrators..lol... great now I got to run all the way back to where I came from..fml..lol

Well, I don't know exactly what it is, I'm old school and only remember the ones with the belt that went around your waist. I'm to scared to Google "vibrating plates" lol

Nikola Tesla Offered Mark Twain to stand on one of his Oscillators. Mark Twain claimed it cured him of digestion problems.

I have not confirmed this in any way, it is just from memory. I heard or read it somewhere. But it does make some sense, apparently they were some good vibrations. (busts out in to dance)

"Off Twain rushed to the restroom, embarrassed by his condition. Tesla smiled; the laxative effect of the vibrator was well known to the chuckling laboratory staff."

If you google "tesla oscillator mark twain" you get a lot of results. While funny, obviously not the kind of technical information I was seeking.

No problem! I can't help it, it's in my nature (INFJ).

I haven't seen or heard of this particular incarnation of whole-body vibrators. But there have been plenty of vibrating beds, vibrating massage tables and the like.

Long term effect on the body, I have no idea. Short term, they act like a light but unfocused massage, stimulating blood flow fairly evenly.

If the vibration is so violent that you feel your brain being buffeted, it's probably harmful.

This Article:

Whole body vibration exercise: are vibrations good for you?
http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/39/9/585

Covers:
IS VIBRATION A NATURAL STIMULUS?
VIBRATION AND MUSCLE ACTIVATION: THE MUSCLE TUNING HYPOTHESIS
METABOLIC EFFECTS OF VIBRATIONS
ACUTE EFFECTS OF VIBRATION ON NEUROMUSCULAR PERFORMANCE
CHRONIC EFFECTS OF VIBRATION ON NEUROMUSCULAR PERFORMANCE

And if you don't feel like reading the whole article, I'd skip to CONCLUSIONS at the end. It appears to me this subject needs to be studied in greater depth.

Our brain waves oscillate, so does every atom in the universe. There may be benefits beyond what is currently being studied. A big factor in the benefits received will be the frequency and amplitude of the oscillations. Surely different frequencies would render different effects.

I am with PhD on this one and prefer to stick to the locally vibrating apparatus blushing tongue2

I haven't read any of the links, but I cannot believe it is good to vibrate the entire body with the same frequencies or oscillations, whatever it's called.
Every part of the body has its own vibrational frequency, it will likely mess things up to do an entire body shake.

I'd never do it anyway. My body is so incredibly sensitive, I doubt it would do me good.

But all this talk about vibration has got me distracted now, dangit.

Yes, and the article concludes this in the conclusion section:

"As we know from occupational medicine that prolonged exposure to WBVT can have major negative effects on health"

Important to note here; it does say prolonged exposure. Everything in moderation. Wouldn't want to vibrate yourself in to a ball of mush, now would you?

I would also ask the question; if you go for a run, or bounce on a trampoline, is that not sending essentially one frequency through the entire body? Yet we know we feel better after getting some exercise. Using an oscillator you would get more of the same, simply faster.

You could choose to get the same oscillations a long run would provide in a fraction of the time, without actually running. One thing that remains as a question for me here is if increasing frequency may not necessarily hold the same benefit as the same wave at a lower frequency. That should be studied.

Find out how many oscillation at what amplitude and frequency of say a run, and then apply the same with an oscillator at the same, and increased frequency on test subject. And compare results.

Please, if you see flaw in my logic, point it out.
