Sergei skripal, an ex Russian agent who came to Britain a few years ago in a spy exchange was attacked with a "military grade "nerve agent only produced by the Russians, his daughter was also attacked. they failed to murder them but are both critical along with a policeman who was first on the scene. The attack happened in Salisbury, England. The assumption by out government today is that it was probably done by the kremlin or Moscow has lost control of their weapons. a few years ago another Russian was murdered with a radioactive material in a restaurant.
What happens next?

I dunno, a 'dirty' bomb?

When the USSR dissolved weren't a lot of secret ordinance smuggled out?
Russian tech is available on the black market so anyone with a grudge against anyone can make it appear as tho its a Russian act.
Until the perpetrator is caught, nobody can be sure of the actual motives for the hit.
A 'few years ago' is a long time when considering state secrets. While the hit could be some type of retribution for the act of defecting, I highly doubt it was to protect state secrets. Its just as likely that Sergel reneged on some deal and was taken out. His connections may or may not have been tied to Russia.

Hi tom.
True, that's the spying game I guess. We all have them don't we?
It's more of the location and proximity to innocent people.

Yeah, its pretty scary how 'collateral damage' is accepted.
The police officer you mentioned was only doing his job.
Imagine if a family found the scene first.

Your question of "What Happens Next" is sad because we both know something WILL happen next. The main thing on everyone's mind should be, How much collateral damage will there be next time, and the time after that and the time after that? Will it escalate to the point where it is common to take out an entire city block for one target?

Then, there's the loss of control that could wipe out an entire city or initiate a super pandemic. Technology is getting pretty sophisticated. Not only is a 'dirty bomb' a logical threat, there are some really nasty viruses manufactured. It only takes one madman to start something that can't be stopped.

Perhaps it is nature's way of culling over-population? Perhaps it is inevitable? As far as I'm concerned, its the lone crazy that will cause more carnage than a national nuclear confrontation.

If you haven't watched it yet, have a look at Twelve Monkeys (1995) staring Bruce Willis. Its an eye opener.
Also have a look at Outbreak (1995) with Dustin Hoffman. It drives home just how easy an 'accident' can get out of control, even by the ones trained to handle these deadly things.

Yes, I've seen twelve monkeys, definitely an eye opener and your right, I think the people who do this are not worried about collateral just as long as they get the target! They say that the nerve agent is hard to detect through security, ie an airport as you need so little, it could have been posted to!

The news here is saying if Russia is guilty of this act our government will react robustly, this probably means England will not play in the World Cup, could save us further embarrassment.
