I never understood why such a large portion of the WWE audience hated John Cena. I mean, while he's not the most technically gifted wrestler in WWE, not many wrestlers work harder in the ring than Cena. His promos are among the best today--as long as he does them WITHOUT a script. Cena can come up with a Cena promo a lot better than a writer can. Who else makes publicity appearances on his off days--off days that are few and far between.

Personally, I can't wait till Cena gets back. I'd MUCH rather see him in the ring instead of aging hippie Shawn Michaels, that son(in-law) of a boss HHH, and freaks like Batista, Mizark (old joke)Henry, and Great Khali.

Can't understand why the crowds turned on him.Has improved and one of his best showings was against R.V.D. at one night stand.Didn't look outta place in that match

What if I made the statement that Cena has been the best wrestler in the WWE for the past two to three years? You would all think I was nuts right? Well, truth be told, I think he was. See, I don't base a wrestler on just what he does in the ring. I base it on alot of things, like charisma, mic skills, and most important making adjustments on the fly.

Go back to One Night Stand (Ken mentioned this) when Cena walked into the "lions den" called ECW and faced the most popular superstar to have existed in ECW....RVD. Cena was a face, and so was RVD, but this was RVD's backyard and Cena, with the crowd hating his guts, played off of them and (for this one night) became a heel. He switched it on like that (snaps fingers) and it was a sight to behold. I watched this, looked at my buddy who was watching it with me, and proclaimed, "Cena is not just good...he is damn good.".

People hated him for a myriad of reasons. He moves were bleh inside the ring (which they weren't all that bad), he was the Champ for far too long, his character was stale, etc. But folks, now that he is not there, I keep hearing how people are missing the guy. Funny...he entertained you more than you thought. Kind of like when Jericho left and it didn't take the fans long to want him back.

Cena has come a long way in such a short time. Remember, it was like 5 or 6 years ago that he started out in that memorable match with Kurt Angle. Now, he is one of the top dogs in the WWE. Not bad.

No, I don't think you're nuts. I think you make an excellent point. Cena is a VERY valuable performer in WWE, and a strong asset to the company. He doesn't let the booing get to him like others in his position would (*cough* Shawn Michaels *cough*).

Overall, I think Cena's a very enjoyable wrestler to watch, no question.

It's refreshing to come here for online wrestling conversations with actual INTELLIGENT wrestling fans rather than "smart marks." Can't remember who, whether it was Brian Pillman or Scott Steiner, but they hit the nail on the head when they said "Smart mark is an oxymoron." laugh

That said, I've ALWAYS been a Cena fan. What sickens me are when people who are actual WORKERS start dissing on the guy. Of course, those "workers" are just pissed off because they haven't gotten the call up from WWE and are stuck doing podunk indy shows in (insert small town where a low rent indy fed would run here). Could these "workers" be stuck in one territory because they're concentrating more on going on a message board or myspace and ripping on John Cena rather than trying to improve their actual ring work?
