OK, i am new here so I am going to try stating in here a discussion topic.

There are some people said, "I fall in love with her/him at the first sight".

Do you agree with that?

NOTE:
Well, as for me, LOVE at the first sight in none, yet more into
LUST at the first sight... yes it is!

LOVE comes slowly and it is always involved a patience.
Whilst LUST appears suddenly thru the sight of eyes.

Cheers!

If love at first sight goes both ways, it is fine. But it never happened to me.

I have loved what I see, but have never fallen in love with what I see.

I've heard it said from men and women in happy marriages, occasionally not commonly, that they knew the other was the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with from the moment they laid eyes on them. A rather odd thought if it's just lust and a completely pointless statement if a lie.

Not exactly the same thing, but related: I often know in less than a minute of observation whether or not I want to hang around a particular stranger or would much prefer to either distance myself from them or give them a wide berth if I can't. I don't like unpleasant people, nor do I like being around people who just don't get me, both are just pointless trouble.
On the other hand I often know in about the same period whether a stranger is someone I would like to hang around with a bit more, whether they seem familial or just entertaining in a positive way.
Of course and most people I can't get a read on so instantly most of the time, it's just the ones I definitely don't want to hang around or the ones I'd kind of like to that stand right out, often instantly.
It's pretty easy to liken that anecdotal experience with love at first sight, if a woman who was attractive to me happened to also be one of the strangers I feel comfortable with and also happened to be interested in me and single/available, it would certainly be a serendipitous occasion but there also needs to be a touch of circumstantial luck about it, since the rare times that may happen circumstances can easily conspire to render it a ships passing in the night scenario where you barely get to say hello to each other due to present engagement or commitment, she might be a paramedic rendering aid and a little busy to hand out her phone number for example.

Yes and no?

As a serendipitous phenomenon where the senses and immediate situation present (communicates) someone that is the ultimate in potential mates (or abnormality in the brain/central nervous system) leading to a shortcut bonding which is then reinforced as it becomes reciprocated and thereby validates the original feeling/bonding, yes.

It being of any real importance, something you can learn, or have a conscious ability to control in any way, no.

I've heard it said from men and women in happy marriages, occasionally not commonly, that they knew the other was the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with from the moment they laid eyes on them. Not really an odd thought.
People make seemingly "pointless" statements all the time.
What's being thrown around a lot anymore is "virtue signaling."

If they can talk up their mate and relationship, by the transitive property everyone learns in middle or high school, it translates to themselves albeit indirectly.

"Love at first sight!" is an ideal, put forth in movies, talked about a lot, given social attention, valued, magical, purposeful, meaningful, can't be questioned without the questioner looking bad.
It elevates the person above those that haven't experienced it.
Similar to things like "true" love, and parenthood.
"Oh, you're not a parent, you just wouldn't understand until you are."
"Oh, sure, you loved them, but our relationship was 'true' love, written in the stars, soul mates, love at first sight, you wouldn't understand unless you experienced it too."

IOW "I'm better than you, my life has more meaning, I'm more important, because I can feel/think/know/understand the higher principles. I am higher in the social hierarchy."

People have to make sure they aren't seen like those icky yucky people that just feel lust.

I think it is more like lust at first sight and that doesn't take you very far or last very long.

Love at first sight is great but even greater if sustained.

Ty for all the response y'all.

I may be admire one's look at the first sight.
Yet fall in love in a sudden at the first sight... for me it is far from any possibility, unless I lost my mind. LOL

Cheers!

It's cute when a couple in their 80s reminisces about love at first sight - but if you told someone you fell in love with him/her at first site shortly after meeting they would run away screaming.

Love at first site: it’s not real lady. not until you meet someone. Everything else is just an illusion.

I think it’s impulsive behavior that very seldom works out, and when it does it’s just coincidence. I wouldn’t spend my time chasing down fantasy “love at first site” connections. My time is better spent playing Powerball. laugh

I dont believe in love at first site, but OP you actually described it to a tee.

Lust at first sight, to me is the exotic cousin of love and love comes after when you get to know the person and you connect in so many ways, emotionally, physically etc.

They also say Love is blind, if that is the case why is lingerie so popular eh?

You would be assuming it refers to the first physical site of someone...

Just maybe you see them for the first time doing something kind for someone else and you fall in love with the kindness they have...

Not everything is physically driven.

Well said, I agree.

I believe in love at first sight.

When the nurse handed me my son and I looked at him for the first time... It was definitely love I felt. The same with my other two.

When I saw this dress I absolutely had to have and tried it on... it was love and I had to buy it.

When I saw that cute little kitten... I totally loved it from the moment he looked at me.

We accept these things when someone says it and maybe even think... "Awww, that's so precious"

Yet.... when someone says it was love at first sight with the person they are in a relationship with... suddenly we say, "Must be lust!"

I dont know, Im having a hard time with this one 2mail4m, because people who Ive talked who have been in love truly, tells me that love is passion, commitment, intimacy in an established relationship.

You cant get that within the first 30 seconds of meeting that person, I get that there is a strong desire or attraction to someone from the get go whether its physical or if they are a sapiophile they fell deeply for their minds.

I think people especially hopeless romantics are in love with the idea of being in love.
