OMG the Notre Dame in Paris has been at least half ruined by a horrible fire... Fire is under control now, but fire brigade is going to be busy with it all through the night.
What a loss...

Yes, unbelievable what happened... The structure remains, so far, but my goodness... it's unreal that such a special and beautiful building has been destroyed.

Twelve French Churches Attacked, Vandalized in One Week
A dozen Catholic churches have been desecrated across France over the period of one week in an egregious case of anti-Christian vandalism.

The recentΒ spateΒ of church profanations has puzzled both police and ecclesiastical leaders, who have mostly remained silent as the violations have spread up and down France.

What a loss...

Is it?
Reading about all the renovations it went through over the last 800 years, including using plastic gargoyles to save on cost and materials, what exactly is being lost?
What can't be rebuilt, which part of it hasn't been renovated?
Or is what is actually burning down is the false idea of what it was vs. what it is? Why mourn Theseus' ship?

Because losing something that is ingrained in history and tradition remains a true loss to everyone whether it represents good or bad to you in anyway the loss to many is great when something beautiful becomes blemished by something so tedious as vandalism.

Not just that...

They can rebuild and replace all they want, but it will never be the same.

Once the original stained glass and wood carvings are gone, it becomes much more difficult to marvel over the craftsmanship achieved so long ago.

Quite shocking to read!
And this... On average desecration of 2 churches per day in France :O

Reports indicate that 80 percent of the desecration of places of worship in France concerns Christian churches and in the year 2018 this meant the profanation of an average of two Christian churches per day in France, even though these actions rarely make the headlines.

In 2018, the Ministry of the Interior recorded 541 anti-Semitic acts, 100 anti-Muslim acts, and 1063 anti-Christian acts.

Miracle happened last night...
The beautiful structure still there...
but the roof collapsed...
Still a cross of Jesus which is still inside...

1300 oak TREES for the beams of the roof... Unreal! He said that's 50 acres of woods.
Meaningless to me, but in meters... if it was a square it'd be 3 x 3 kilometers surprised
Holy crap!!!

So far they still say that. Wait and see, question is, would they make it public if it wasn't? I think you'd get a huge uproar.

The official guess at this time,
is 'accidental'.

I dread posting this, as people are
already speculating terrorism/arson.

Not a surprise... but even then, what is the truth? It could be arson and them keeping it still to not create uproar.
Could be an accident and fear mongers seeing an opportune moment to chit stir.

Considering the huge amount of desecration of churches in France I'm am inclined to think the worst though.

I'd heard today that they have pledges of 340 million to rebuild it. It would take five years to do the job. Not like the hundred it took originally.

(They took a lot of coffee breaks)
