Hey all,

I'm new and am interested in getting to know if any other machinists are on? I'm also an avid railroader. Loved trains since I was 3 years old. I'm also building a 1/8th scale live steam locomotive at my shop I now work at.

Thanks,
Logan Thurman

Welcome ;-)

When I was young I had a cousin who was insane for trains.
Every inch of his bedroom room was covered with working trains,
then he had to move into the family room, soon over-run
with trains.

It was the most wonderful experience.
One never wanted to leave that fantasyland.
So I get it.

Did some machine work years ago, turret lathe, knee mill, nothing fancy just your basic drilling and turning. Also worked in fluid power for years. Love old engines, steam and IC. Why, you hiring????

My father worked in a sheet metal factory for 40 years. It was a big company and he became supervisor. That place ruined his hearing. It's a major lighting company that is still around. He also worked some as a mechanic for a while.

Nice, I'm working with sheet metal as I build the boiler, cab and tender for my locomotive.

I have heard that people who work with sheet metal in factories get really bad hearing. my Dad never had any ear protection, back in those days.

Not just sheet metal. Any factory can be an extremely noisy and dangerous place to work.

Back in those days, they didn't use any ear protection.
