How many people go out to a bar, with some trusted friends, and enjoy a few drinks, or accept the offer of a drink from a stranger?

Or even from someone they only know by association, through a friend of a friend?

A young woman I know very well, and has been educated about drink spiking, and how to be cautious, went out with an older friend of hers, and the friend's partner.

She completely trusted the friend, and so by association, trusted the friend's partner.

The friend went home early, leaving the young woman in the company of her partner, where she would be safe....

He drugged her.

He took advantage of her innocence and naivety, and her trust.

This young woman, will NEVER be the same again.

Please. especially in this holiday season, when we all feel a little more trusting, and relaxed...be careful, and if you have young adult kids, remind them....

It also happens to men, so it is not exclusive to women.

Thank you Jess, it is an important reminder. And to add on to that, you don't have to necessarily be drugged to have it happen. A few too many drinks with the wrong person can also do it. Be safe, go with friends, stay with friends and watch each other's backs! flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

Very sorry to hear about your friend.

If they would only pass a law where you could shoot those pr*cks once convicted, then it would make those IDIOTS think a little more I would hope before doing such a horrible thing.

Probably, the best way to avoid the situation entirely is to not drink at all. Sound judgement should prevent most people from taking open drinks from anyone. However, many people don't use sound judgement after having a few drinks that they procured for themselves. So stay safe and sober is my advice.

That's probably true to some extent, but these drugs they use can be put in anything, water, coffee, soda, doesn't matter. flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

And that's the truth, and this goes for meeting strangers online as well, always best to meet in public and share contact info with a loved one of the person you're meeting. It may sound rude to the person you're meeting but, better safe than sorry. I've gone along on some of my sisters dates with guys from online, they didn't like it but they got over it..lol;^]

I agree with you Suzin, but my premise is that people are generally more inclined to take an open drink against better judgment after first being a little intoxicated; coupled with the excitement of the atmoshpere or peer pressure.

a small story...

when i was younger, i went to the bar with a platonic friend to watch a band that we were both interested in. he and i shared beers through about five hours...to a total of four beers between us. that's two per person. totally and completely sober.

the love of my life walked in...we'd had some issues, he'd become strung out and we'd split for a bit...seeing other people and such. when he walked in, i looked over at matt and smiled and said, "ben loves me, he'll buy me a beer!"

ben agreed, and brought me back a bottle of beer, laying it on the table. matt reached over to take a sip, and ben replied, "i bought that beer for LORI, not for you." matt shrugged and replied that it was about time for him to leave, anyhow.

another friend, cary, was to take me home later in the evening. i began drinking the beer from ben...and my next memory is being carried in cary's arms as he was arguing with ben. ben was telling him that i was his and haaaaad to go home with him, while cary was saying that he had promised to give me a safe ride and intended to carry through with his promise. as cary was 6'6", i left with him.

the only explanation i can come up with is that ben...a man i had dated for THREE YEARS...drugged me.

Stepdaughter is in law enforcement.
The things she tells me, if it ever happens to a friend or family; the perp had better give his soul to god.
He will belong to ME.

So sorry to hear this. I hope she is alright now, and can overcome this tragedy soon, hopefully learning a lesson in the end.

It's ashame that we can't simply go to a bar or party, have a few drinks, meet new people, and just enjoy the moment without worrying about the devious intentions of others.

Now ladies when a guy buys you drinks watch him order it from the waitress or bartender and have the waitress or bartender hand it to you. When you go to the restroom take your drink with you. If you think you've been druggged tell a bouncer as clubs do not want to be known to be spots where people are drugged then sexually assaulted.
