A few years ago I was thinking about this. Thinking 120 sounds good to me, provided in good health and still able to move around properly.
But then it dawned on me it'd mean outliving my children and most everyone else I know. Hmmm... Especially outliving my kids...

I forgot all about it until I stumbled upon this vid about 3 centennials. They were all lovely, a 101 yr old man who still baked his own bread even! The other man of 104 ordering food at Tesco's on his tablet to be home delivered. Amazing!!
The woman was lovely. She told her marriage had been fabulous, but her husband died when in his 70s so she'd been on her own for 30+ yrs!! And... her children had all passed away too. That must be so hard.

How would you feel about this, getting 100+ yrs old?

There is a continuing trend in developed countries for life span to increase, so we might all have to get used to the changes that this will bring. I suppose the good thing is that our children's life span will also continue to keep pace, so the usual balance of us remembering our grandparents and living to see our grandchildren will be maintained. If it's just a one-off thing that someone lives to be particularly old, then it's certainly possible that they might outlive their children but before the development of antibiotics and with poor living conditions, poverty, rampant disease that's something that most parents had to come to terms with anyway.
It is much better now than in the past but suffering is still part and parcel of the human condition.

I never thought about growing older than 100.

I don't think many do that's why I thought it'd be a nice topic! It IS possible. There is no reason whatsoever that we shouldn't get much much older than 100 even. The only reason that has us age is stress and toxic chit like food & drink & air that isn't pure or alcohol and tobacco.
If our living conditions would be healthier, and mostly with much less stress, everyone would get much older. There is NO reason to age apart from what I mentioned. None whatsoever...

So becoming older than 100 in itself is not so strange. Reaching that age in reasonable health is another, haha.

But what if... and in good health...

There will always be younger people in the community who want wisdom.

I'd never want to live to be 100. I'll be done by about 80.

The survey methods used in this research study are so flawed that there is no proof whatsoever as to the claims; however, the claims are about what one would expect.

Here is a list of centenarian authors. There appear to be a lot of poets on the list. At least one of the centenarians, a Native American war chief, on the list wrote an autobiography.

Think of what Elizabeth Custer (1842-1933) saw in her long lifetime...from covered wagons to airplanes.

I am 100. My profile says so. Would my profile lie? Ok so I fibbed a few years. As long as I can drive and flip off idiot drivers and go on a few ghost hunts I'm ok with it.

100+ years old?

Well, all I hope, is that if I live to that age.
Is that I can still

Be the obnoxious old guy at the care facility/
old folks home, chasing the nurses around.

In a way that's how I'm thinking as well: If I'm going to make it until 120 or something, my kids just have to make sure they get older too, haha.
Yup, I'm simply going to be selfish here. laugh

And indeed ONLY if A) my mental health is still intact and B) I can move around pretty much okay still.
But B is rather useless if you've turned in a bumbling elder... So my mental faculties also have to be okay.

Exactly! But those few more years mean I will be slower and it will take me a little while longer to get to your cabin in the woods to borrow that cup of sugar. laugh

I'm with Cat on that.... Very few 100 year olds are ambulatory and most have dementia , about the only thing that functions are your bladder and bowels ( a little to well at times)most just want to lie in bed cause they are in pain . Ah! What a life indeed! You lie in bed in some long term care home 20 hours out of 24 , only woken up for meals and diaper change , rolled around like a log every 2 hours to " reposition" to prevent decubs (aka bed sores), oh and if you lose weight your poa can decide to have a feeding tube inserted so you can lie there another year or two and they can brag Mama is 102! ( And miserable)

Well the bowhead whale and the Greenland shark both have average lifespan of several hundred years. One has to wonder how these creatures can be so intelligent and long living.
