Coyotes are seen in 49 USA States. They are mating
with wolves in some areas and causing problems for People and properties. Have you ever seen one? |

I've only seen one live one running out in the desert by the road. The other dead ones were on the side of the highway mainly in Arizona and Utah.

QUOTE: They closely resemble the domestic dog German shepherd. I've shot dozens of them. Back in high school we used to hunt them, we had a fur buyer that would come to town every couple of weeks and if IIRC we'd get $35 for a nice one. If you think they look like a German Shepherd . That would be one underfed, very small and scummy looking Shepherd with the wrong coloring. Coyotes are everywhere, we're not talking about a rare animal |

That comment of resemblance came off the internet search on Coyotes.

The coyote can have similar features of a wolf. The coyote is much smaller and thin boned. There are different species and coloring. I think coyotes resemble some foxes.

Funny I should see this post. Almost been a month since I last moved closer to the city and I cannot believe how many coyotes I hear every night... more than I've heard out in the county. I suspect they do well in inner city environments close to house cats and garbage eating racoons. I expect to hear a lot tonight since it's darn near full moon. Sounds like maybe 20 at a time. I've seen how they dig dens anywhere there's a mound of dirt. As a kid, we'd plug the dens and the next day they'd just dig one right next to it.

Not sure what keeps then in check when the packs get this large... dogs don't stand much chance and there aren't any wolves around here. Hawks do a good job competing for voles but ultimately cars and trucks are left to contain coyote bands.

Yes, coyotes resemble foxes with big fluffy tails and strong sense of smell. I've even seen them track and kill skunks. Coyotes are generally larger than fox but much smaller than wolves. I've know I've seen wolves kill coyotes in Yellowstone. Coyotes usually travel in small bands relative to large wolf packs.
