That's Elton John, but it's ok.

I did say Elton John recorded my favorite song of either...

Rock, you probably like Elton.

I'm more of a Mickey Gilley fan.
(Its a Texas thang.)

But, Elton has burned the house down,
a time or two.

However, Billy Joel has graced my music
collection, more than all but the Grateful Dead.

So, you have no opinion.

The fact, that I've bought more Billy Joel
recordings, kinda is an opinion.

I know that Billy joel has said that he usually writes the music first before the lyrics. That's more difficult to do. Most write the lyrics first. He is a musician.

Have seen both in concert Downunder Melbourne mid to late 70's maybe?
Hard to split as not really faves, however visually, Elton's stage presence was mind blowing for the time.
Billy was a very serious pro.
Both backed by awesome muso's.
Both, Legends!

I prefer Billy Joel.
I've seen him perform twice, once back in 1986 at the Pacific Colosseum in Vancouver, and once in Munich in 1990 (on his birthday). His 1986 concert is still the best large concert I've been to.
While I enjoy some of Elton John's songs, I have a larger playlist of Billy Joel's, and am more inclined to try to learn how to play some of his on the piano.

I don't know where Mickey Gilley came into this. Start your own thread. I was talking about Billy Joel and Elton John.

I was kind of thinking it would be even Elton John and Billy Joel. I'm Billy Joel. But that is me.

Elton John
I grew up hearing a lot of Elton John on the radio.
They hardly ever played Billy Joel.

While I do enjoy keyboards (piano) I am more attracted to guitar and sax.
I like Roger Hodgeson (piano player from Supertramp).
When I was preteen, my dad used to listen to ragtime and boogie woogie on those old 78 rpm one-sided slate records. Much of my formative years was filled with scratchy fast piano songs.
I like some slow blues piano and some ballads but I associate piano to old western player-piano type music.

I still don't listen to Billy Joel much. I don't dislike his work, I just haven't heard enough songs I like to gain an interest.

Some Elton John songs I like (5 stars)
The Biotch Is Back
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Rocket Man
Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting
Candle In The Wind
Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me
Someone Saved My Life
I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues
Crocodile Rock

I just checked, I have no Billy Joel songs at all.
Does anyone recommend (based on the Elton John songs I like) some Billy Joel songs I might like?

Billy Joel . Both are great musicians but I listen more to Billy Joel . Also he puts on a good concert not much lights and thrills , just a lot of good music. The glass houses tour in Greensboro was right at 3 hours long. No warm up band.

Try a selection off the Glass Houses album or 52 street. Released in 1980 Glass Houses is in my opinion his best album . There’s also the classic “piano man”
