Topic: Getting a kitten!

For weeks I've been eagerly looking forward to the day I can pick up my kitten Nila at my daughter's.
It has been a long wait, hihi. From the moment she had planned to get her cat pregnant we agreed one would come to live with me. The litter was born on June 14th.
All in all it's been a long, long, long wait!

Choosing my kitten took weeks as they keep 2 kittens themselves and her partner couldn't make up his mind. Then he did but changed his mind again. Much to my girl's annoyance, and mine.
Finally he was okay with a choice, which made clear that little Nila was my kittie-kat!

I had asked advice on a few things on a large cat forum, only to be shocked by the people's attitude. Nothing but rude, judgemental, criticising etc. And none of my questions answered. So I asked admin to delete my account.
Then it dawned on me to ask my cousin! She's a real cat person, so am I, but she's on a whole other level of 'cat person' hahaha. Plus, she's always had more than 2 cats and I figured she'd have experience with putting a kitten in a home with 2 adult cats.
And she did! She was of great help and was nothing but positive and no need to worry about anything.
Finally someone that was positive as I've had mostly negative reactions from people. Which made me wonder why people have to be like that, but alas.

Tomorrow I'm going to pick her up!
All is set, a new cat tree, I've got a lilac litter for her, kitten food, some toys, and I worked my cute behind off to get the place kitten safe.
So all is set. It's going to be an exciting day tomorrow!

How exciting.

Although I had cats in the past, I never had more than one at a time so can’t offer any advice. Glad your cousin was happy to offer you her experience.

One more sleep Crystal until Nila arrives! Keep us updated on how things go please. flowerforyou

Hi Delightful! I've always had either 1 or 2, and once kittens but those were of 1 of my cats. The other adult cat was so incredibly sweet and it was never a problem with her. The sweetest, most easy going cat one can have!!

I've gotten my current to in as kitten while having one adult. That didn't go very well, not necessarily the adult but one of the kittens, Bramble. He really is a bit of an odd ball.

And yes, I'm very happy with my cousin's advice! I'm confident it will work out. It just feels Nila belongs here with me, hihi. Let's hope I'm right!

Thanks, Larsi! It's still a bit weird to think that tomorrow night I'll be here with a kitten, haha. I do hope she will take to me real fast. She is one of the very cuddly cats from the litter, liking to sleep in your lap. That's the kind of cat I like!

Nila is home!!!
She was totally quiet on the drive home, didn't pee or poop in the travel basket either. Both are new to me, hihi.
At home she immediately came out the basket and started looking and sniffing the entire living room whilst peeping a lot, -her soft kitten meows.
I distracted her a bit with some toys but let her look around her new home, all the while talking to her.
She drank from the fountain, thank goodness as it had been stinking hot in the car! Then she got on the cat tree, played with the ball that's hanging on it for a while, and then curled up.
After a while I walked over and stroked her. For the first time I could!! Before she always shied away as I was of course a stranger. So I was happy I could stroke her. When I turned back to my desk she curled up properly and went to sleep. She's still sleeping now, probably exhausted from all the to-do and new impressions, being gone from her mother, sisters, and my daughter.
My two cats just came in to eat. I let them outside for a while as Nila was just peaceful and sleeping her much needed sleep. But now it was past dinner time and they ate and went back outdoors. So no encounters yet :)
So far, so good.

And more good news: I desperately needed my garden done with a brush cutter, a professional one otherwise you cannot even get through the grass jungle. I need it cut for Nila so that when she goes outdoors in a while I can see her and find her and that she doesn't get lost in there. It is THAT bad!
I can't even get through what used to be paths anymore.
Then finding someone for that.... pfffff... The other day I thought I got one but he was just difficult, and had to think about it, blablabla.
I sent it into the Cosmos, trusting completely Spirit wouldn't leave me hanging. I need it for me but more so for Nila!
Et voila... I got two reactions to my advert after days of nothing. And one is used to heavier work. He's coming over tomorrow and the price for the garden including pruning the hedge is ridiculously low!! My jaw dropped when he mentioned the price, hihi.
YES PLEASE!!!
So tomorrow that's done too!!
I feel SO blessed and happy. No more worries about how I can allow my kitten to go out in a few weeks.

smooched  smooched

Oh she’s just sooooo adorable!

I’m so glad you’ve got someone to deal with your garden! The universe is quite good at knowing our needs. Everything is falling into place. Enjoy your time with your new fur baby and I’m sure it won’t be long till she’s got you wrapped around her little paw :feet:

She is, isn't she!!
And yes, it is all working out :)

First encounter with one cat...
I have a mesh sheet in the doorway so I have fresh air (it's warm) and Nila cannot get out. Suddenly Bailey was on the other side, wanting more food. Nila happened to be near the sheet too so they saw each other. Bailey seemed taken aback, Nila's hair stood upright, hihi.
I grabbed hold of her so I could let Bailey in. Bailey didn't know exactly what to do with the intruder, thank goodness the catnip cushion was close and he started playing with that while Nila was hiding under the table. She was trembling so I grabbed her to hold her and comfort her.
At some point I got Bailey in the kitchen to feed him and Nila went for shelter on the cat tree.
After eating Bailey decided to go out again.
Then the other turned up for his 2nd portion (they never eat in 1 session for some reason) but he didn't even seemed to notice anything.
Nila is sleeping again, she still hasn't eaten :/

But... so far I'm happy. Bailey wasn't angry, hissing, or anything. The hair on his back was flat even.
Fingers crossed! Amazing how big he suddenly seems in comparison!

I think you just gotta play it by ear and it seems you’re doing just fine so far. As long as Nila has a safe place she can go to if she’s overwhelmed by everything. I do know that cats love being high up so perhaps the tree will become her β€˜go to’ place.

My cats never ate their meals all in one go either. They liked to know that they had food in their bowl for whenever they decided to snack lol. Guess it must be a cat thing hehe

Me too! And I think it's going well. I can pet her without her acting disturbed and just now she started to purr! love smooched
I think it's more about how it will go with the other two cats. That might take a bit of time.

Introducing a new kitten might be tricky, it will take some time. Main thing is, each cat gets the same level of attention and love. But I am sure you know that

Yes, I got some good tips from my cousin the other day :)
Good thing so far that during the first encounter with Bailey the only one that had the hairs stand up was Nila, not Bailey. No angry behaviour or anything either.
For a first encounter I feel that's pretty danged good!

I got a little kitten at one time. There was already a big dog living in the house, and they got along just fine. I'm seeing your cats will get to like each other.

The high places, yes! I read about that, which is why I bought this particular cat tree. It has a basket up top.
I put it in front of a window so she can look outside from it :) I bought it mostly for the first few weeks when she has to stay indoors. If she stops using it after a while I will likely sell it. Maybe.

The food thing used to be tricky as 1 ate in sessions the other didn't and then scoffed whatever his brother had left behind as well. But now he also eats in two-s.

In any case... I had a good night, she was totally quiet until I entered the room and called her :) She was sitting in front of the window behind the rolling curtain, looking out, haha.

Thank you! Dogs can be surprisingly okay with kittens, can't they! My son in law has an older dog and she was fine with all the kitten to-do as well.
I hope my cats will be okay with each other, like you said!
