Has online dating run it's course, or do people still have big expectations?

I personally believe it has, most, in my experience are just wanting someone to chat with instead of going into the real world, each to their own I guess 🕺

I think it's 50/50 really.. I'd prefer real world connections but it's hard to achieve when you live in the boonies, so.. jumped back in the pond to see if there's any bites (fishing reference )

Scammers are rife here, and on most dating sites I guess, pity as it ruins the experience for sincere people.. Happy New to ya anyway 🥳

No, I don't think that dating sites have run their course.

The biggest problem is that most dating sites want to make money. So, those site really do not concentrate on trying to connect two people together. A couple months ago Match Group got fined by the FTC for 14 million dollars for cheating their users.

To make a dating site successful, you would need to:

1. Have a questionnaire to determine their personality type and match them to the right personality. There are 18 personality types. It is a challenge to create a questionnaire that would correctly select the correct personality. Without "chemistry" there will not be a relationship. This is the downfall of most sites. eharmony is the closest to do this. But, their site is very expensive and they do not have enough users.

2. Sites need to get rid of bots, scammers, etc without blocking real people. It is possible, but it takes work. two factor authentication is a very good start.

3. People need to spend more time building a good profile. Sites need to help people with that process. Whenever I see an empty or almost empty profile I reject them. Not going to waste time on someone who is not serious.

scammers are rife EVERYwhere there days.. and yes.. in many ways it ruins the experience.. I've been part of M2 since almost the very beginning and I've met from here, in the real world, many who've become good long term friends.. I opened a thread "Zee's Pub" back then and had lots of fun adventures online with those same folks, and many others.. but this time round? I'm at like 148 "likes me" in 4 days.. and as previously mentioned.. most are probably scammers.. mind blowing.. disheartening really.. but.. it is what it is huh..

Yes I remember there used to be a lot fun on here with people from all kinds of places, pity it's gone to the dogs so to speak, but as you say it is what it is..

I met REAL people, as you stated, from all over the world.. Asia, Australia and so many more places.. I was always eager to come onto the site at the end of a day to hang out with like minded people, laugh, and simply connect.. now?? again as you stated.. it seems to have gone to the dogs! pity really.. but like everything in life.. things constantly change.. but not always for the good.. sadly!

I feel like I kill more threads then anything else.. people simply don't want to seem to engage..

There are very few actual dating sites. Most so called dating sites are actually husband or wife hunting sites. Pick through the profiles and see if someone has a spouse potential. Go through your 100 question checklist. Decide if the marriage potential is good enough to actually become involved with them. Nothing in there about going out together on Friday evening!!

There several hundred real dating sites in the USA. Match Group has about 42 dating sites. There are quite a few others.
