How many people have done it? My car has been leaking power steering fluid like crazy since Saturday. For those who haven't done it, it sucks. The bright side is you get a full upper body workout just driving to the store. I'm going to be ripped in a week laugh

Guess I'll tell my age, but when I started driving trucks, we didn't know what power anything was except the accerlator.

But power steering broke is harder than manual non-power!drinker

They're not TOO bad if they aren't equipped with power steering. But, if they are and it just doesn't work they kinda really suck. Especially at low speed. I'll tell you one thing though. Don't try it for long with a '80's - mid '90s GM w/ tilt wheel. Those columns don't like that too much :P

Lol, thanks, but I drive a '98 Chevy Malibu. The worst part is, since I'm near Chicago, it started snowing like crazy the next 2-3 days after the leak started. So for awhile, I just couldn't drive. It's hard enough without the power steering, but the snow and ice made it WAY worse.

I only drove it around sidestreets those days because I put some sealer in it to slow down the leak. I've had other cars to use on the main roads. My uncle said he'd take a look at it, but I have to find a way to get it to his house. But that recquires getting on the expressway so I'm not sure how I'm going to manage that one.

Yea, watch it cause if you have to react real fast you could loose control.

I had a '72 Dart that had a slow leak in the PS pump. I was running a drag racing national event with it, and I was nervous about it, so I cut the belt so it wouldn't operate. I went about .4 seconds faster, and got better gas mileage.bigsmile
I've been looking at a '64 Dart for a "toy". No power steering OR power brakes!noway

Worse case scenario you can use Transmission fluid in place of Power Steering fluid. Its way cheaper. But its bad for your system. I did that with a Chrysler Lazer for a long time.

GOD, I am old. don't want to shock you, but vechiles have NOT always had power steering. Have driven trucks with 3' across steering with 3' steering wheels, so you had to leverage to turn the wheel; setting still. Also manual clutch's, gave you a left leg, that would impress ARNOLD.

Those were the days.

Its not bad. Backing up from a stop can be a bit of a hassle. My 84 Ranger didnt have it and I have taken the power steering out of my my mustang to make it lighter so Ive kinda gotten used to it.
