Jake opened his eyes. Trembling and shivering with cold sweats, he awoke to a feeling of pure fear, releasing enough adrenaline to send the average human heart into cardiac failure. If not for the fact that this was all so familiar to him, he would have literally been scared to death. Jake leapt to his feet and with a great hope that this was all part of the nightmare that had been plaguing him for seven years to the day. He threw open the door and as he looked into the mirror all his fears were confirmed, the day was at hand, the change had started. The image in the mirror seemed holographic. It looked as if someone was typing out a message in some unknown alphabet. As Jake stood watching the image, letter by letter, he began to understand the language. At first he was intrigued enough to watch. The more he watched, the more he understood. The more he understood, the more he tried to turn away, but he couldn’t. He seemed to be unable to move. Standing as helpless as a child, the written words began to speak for themselves. The voice was monotone and very deep. It spoke to him, but only a part of him understood the message. A completely separate entity. Jake had hoped that this part of him had gone forever. He had almost convinced himself that what had happened seven years ago only existed in his mind. He had convinced himself that this part of him only existed in his nightmare’s. Demonic laughter woke him from his trance. The image disappeared with a flash. Jake stood in the bathroom soaked with sweat, physically drained and ravished of emotion. It became more and more evident as Jake stood contemplating his next move, studying every particular, as if it were a strategic piece in the most entrenched game of chess. Today he seemed to be replaying the exact events of the most unrealistically horrid twenty-four hours of his life. He knew that no matter what he did, he couldn’t stop this day’s fate. The nightly horrific account of that day, tormented his soul and kept the event fresh in his mind. He replayed the gruesome nightmare in his head hundreds of times exploiting every option in a feeble attempt to out think the powers that make the day’s outcome’s. Now, only thirty minutes into the day, the nightmare he remembered was quickly becoming an unchangeable reality. He retreated to his bed side and sat with his hands across his face wanting to weep. As soon as those feelings of fear and sorrow flooded his synapse, they were crushed by an overpowering and relentless rage. Jake’s fist tightened. You could see the hate in his eyes growing. With jaws clenched, he began screaming, and saliva frothed around his mouth. He clutched at his shirt and ripped it from his back. an unedited exerpt from the book i am writing |
