I quit and you just have to have the willpower to do it.

Think about your lungs and that might helpflowerforyou

Good Luck Steve....have quit in the past but like a fool went back to it.

Just in the last few days have thought I need to quit right now, because it has taken me 3 days to smoke a pack of cigs. After being sick all week, then when I try to smoke I just end up hacking and coughing even worse.

OUCH BABY! Good for you! I quit 6 months ago, and am FINALLY starting to feel human again. I have been a seriously unhappy puppy for a long time, and it didn't help when mom would watch Oprah and then call to tell me being depressed and cranky was perfectly normal!!! In the past when I had tried to quit everyone would ask me how it was going... every time someone MENTIONED smoking, I wanted a cigarette. So I told everyone that the subject was taboo. If I wanted to talk about it I, I, I, would bring it up. This helped.
You can do this. It's not for anybody but you. Be strong. Write to me if you need someone who understands!

One problem i have found with trying to quit is, my best friend babysits for me and shes a heavy chain smoker.
I keep tellin her now she has to go outside to smoke
I used to let her smoke in my room only since i smoked.
I come home from work and shes been in my room again smokin.
I had to start lockin my door so she wld have to go outside.
Its pretty bad when i wld come home even when i still smoked and as soon as i wld walk past my bedroom, the smell was soo bad from her chain smokin up there it wld turn my stomach..

good luck to you Steve! Just making the attempt makes you successful. I need to as well. I can give a million excuses why it's not a good time but they're really only excuses. flowerforyou

Steve...

Congratulations, one day at a time as you know. I quit when I found out that I was pregnant with my son. It was easy for me. Most people that I know that have quit...say that it is a terrible addiction. I would have suck on candies or gum to chew on. Like most addictions....get ready for another one. One generally replaces another one, when we try and quit. Some just never go away........

i finally quit for good almost 16 yrs ago. for me, i had to just use will power to make it for the first 3 days. these are the hardest. you gotta keep busy and stick with nonsmoking friends and stay away from any situations where you would normally light up. if you can make 3 days, you are halfway there. make a commitment to get through the week. it's still hard but not as bad as the first few days. then if you can make a week go for two then a month. After a few weeks you will have much much diminished need. but i went as long as a year without and went right back into the habit on previous attempts to quit.

i tried this technique several times but it eventually did work for me...

best of luck in kicking it for good! it will likely be one of the most difficult and rewarding things you ever do...
