Please read this all the way to the end, as it may come off in a different perspective than intended if you don't.

Are you sick of high paid teachers? Teachers’ hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year! It’s time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - baby sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage.

That’s right. Let’s give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM
with 45 min. off for lunch and plan — that equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

Now how many do they teach in day…maybe 30? So that’s $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day. However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET’S SEE…. That’s $585 X 180= $105,300 peryear. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).

What about those special education teachers and the ones with Master’s degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an hour. That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 children
X 180 days = $280,800 per year.

Wait a minute — there’s something wrong here! There sure is!

The average teacher’s salary (nation wide) is$50,000. $50,000/180 days = $277.77/per day/30 students=$9.25/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student–a very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your
kids!)

WHAT A DEAL!!!!

I wish I wrote this but I didn’t. This was sent to me by one of the teachers in my school. It sure does put things into perspective…What you guys think?

*Disclaimer* I’m a teacher.

Hmmn you can do anything with numbers. How about your typical school or university computer lab manager. Let's see $15.00 per hour and manage a couple hundred computers and no summers off. Now, the teachers' salaries don't look so bad do they?

ha ha ha , he's messin with you robyn:tongue:

danny no one is saying that teachers as a whole dont make enough money. they dont.

however there are teachers(like every profession) that earn theirs based on what the good ones do. there are to many kids being push up and out of school that should be held back and taught. politics has infiltrated the school houses no doubt about it.

teacher tenior(sp?-bad teachers hahaha) where you cant fire a bad teacher, only if there is budget issues or something.

hey Im NOT the teacher here you are so I would defer to you, you know whts going on up there more than I. I just know that not all teachers are in fact teaching.

heres hoping you get that 100grand.drinker

if you're asking what they are teaching they are giving you the right answer with the subject of the class he/she is teaching....perhaps if you asked "who" they were teaching you'd get the answer you were looking for..drinker

lol sorry for the misunderstanding there Doc, I am not the teacher that wrote this (although I do intend on getting my teaching degree).

And I agree with you that anything below college/university should not have a tenureship program; this is where the teachers that stay for so many years to begin with, are automatically kept on after that unless there is a scandal, or budget issues. And in the case of budget issues, someone with tenure will normally be slid over to a different department or something because they have tenure.

I also think that every grade, first through twelfth should have a passing exam at the end of the year. Keep the mid terms and finals yes, but have one FINAL test that determines whether that person passes or not. use the term tests to see if they pass that term or have to repeat it.

I also want year round schooling, where kids get a two or three week vacation after every semester instead of a three month vacation in the summer (plus normal winter and spring vacations).

as a parent, and someone who like yourself and most of us here went to school, i think we came out ok with the not going to chool year round thing.

I would hate, hate, hate having to send my daughterr to school year round. there are activities that help with social development(in kids and for families really) that happen in those summers away from school that help us grow to be us. in my opinion that needs to stay, but i agree with you on the rest.

If we went year round, we could shorten the school day by an hour or so every day as well, and that would allow the same activities and such that you are talking about happening in the summer to still be available.

We pay our teachers who are charged with the most important task in the country, the education of your children, a paltry salary. Yet we pay a steroid pumped clod who can lift a ton but can't spell it millions to play with some sort of ball for our entertainment. No wonder this country is so messed up. I live in South Dakota, rank #50 in teacher pay. The school administration gets a 10% pay raise and the teachers are lucky to get 3%. 9 of my neighbors are or have been teachers. They are wonderful dedicated people but they are taking retirement as soon as possible and pursuing other careers.

the superintendant of the school district here left (making 160,000 $ a year to go to another district in ohio
that paid more

yes they are very important jobs

and they deserve to be paid good money

but not when the united states education system

ranks so low in the world

maybe some kind of incentive program needs implemented

bonus for a-b c nothing d-f take away

and the test must be open for everyone to see

and standardized all around the country

with five different versions with less than 5 questions

being the same on any 2 tests
