While at work today, I was informed of something rather odd.

At my job we get paid bi-weekly, so we just got paid Friday (as in 4 days ago). Well, apparently someone at payroll messed up, and gave a $178,000.00 check by mistake to an associate. That just so happens to be the payroll money for all of us.

Well, the guy actually cashed the check although he knew there was no possible way that he could have earned that much, and withdrew 3,000.00.

The main branch finally caught up with this mistake yesterday. The guy, told a few people of what happened, and although he knew it was wrong, did what he did.

My question is, what would you do if the same were to happen to you?

No what i would do is open up a totally seperate account and hold the money...earning interest until they took me to court to get it back, then I would only have to pay back the principal and the interest would still be mine....

Well that is what I'd do...

i would be so upset about the mix up,i would run it back to payroll.Besides cashing it could have bankrupted a small company.

I was once given an extra $100 by a bank teller at a drive-through. I turned around and gave it back after I found the error, and hardly got a thank you from the teller. But you know what? I did the right thing and felt good about it. Hand me a payroll check for six-figures that I know isn't mine and I'm not even going to take it out of the envelope all the way, it's going back.

That is exactly what I said....I would have turned right back into the plant, right to Human Resources and told them.

I don't want that on me. I need money, but not enough to where I would take from another family. A lot of people couldn't cash their checks due to the plants account bouncing like crazy.

Needless to say the guy got fired. Not sure about everything that happened, but I think it's horrible that someone would be willing to take from a place like that and not worry about the other associates that work there as well.

I'd give it back before I even left the office. No amount of money is worth my integrity.

That's exactly what I said. People were talking about it all day at work, and so many were saying that they would have taken the money and ran. I only shook my head at the intregity and character of the people I work with. Glad to know if the mistake happens again that I may not get a paycheck for awhile.
