I was served divorce paper on x-mas, it did not bother me, I was just glad it was over...We thought about staying together for the kids but that lasted a week...

I would be sensitive to whether the holiday was important for them before making that decision. There is nothing worse than having a painful memory tied to a major holiday.....

I can see your point, but wouldn't it be worse if the other party was just there because of the holidays; not because they wanted to be with you?

Except maybe knowing you ruined that holiday spending it with a person you did not love... possibly. Either way it is fake. Disingenuinity is well, not real.

Guess I am and prefer to be honest about things, if I no longer have feelings for someone, I think it's best for a clean break than because of pity/holidays, etc to prolong the inevitable. jmo

Tried getting through a holiday with Ex #1 even though we were both ready to shoot at one another. Bad idea. Let's just say that she won't throw sissors at me again. noway

I should have walked out when I saw it coming. Tried to stick around so the kiddo could have a decent Christmas but it fell apart anyway.

Won't make that mistake again. Ever.

I agree with you, but sometimes plans may be made with other parties that may put the person you intend to leave in an embarrassing situation if you suddenly disappear. I'm not saying to keep your intentions secret, if the relationship is on the rocks, the other party will usually know that anyway. I just think one should end it prior to the holiday or after..... not so close to the holiday, or right on the holiday, as to have that person associate the break up with it.

I would, regardless of holiday. When it's done, it's done

I don't think the day should matter if it's over it's over, I mean if your being honest with the p[erson they should have some idea it's comming! I don't beleive being miserable myself for the sake of someone eltes. If they say they love you they should want to see you happy and vice versa.
