We are educating everyone to a standard compulsory level of a school degree. The expected result of this (expected not by government sledge-headed bureaucrats, mind you) is that there will be less and less good paying jobs available for that level. In other words, we are tuning everyone into an ordinary, nothing exciting, bland type worker. The pay follows. I buy only German and Japanese made cars. This is because I expect quality, and, because I wish American industry the best. An American car has no quality. Unfortunately, this is true. Yes, this nation still makes Saleen and Mustang, but the mainline autos are crap. This, by the way, was predicted (even) by a writer, Arthur Heily (sp?), in his work "Wheels". Not going into details of why there is no quality, it is sufficient to say that in most cathegories of goods, if one is seeking for quality, he won't be looking at "made in usa" goods. What exactly prevents anyone from any walk of life from attaining any professional level he may desire? Rich or poor, in America today, not only it is achievable, you will also be pushed to reach whatever it is you want. Sounds like, you are a good example of effective brainwashing through public education! The fall of the American dollar is a direct result of an unbalanced trade deficit and globalization! WTF are you smoking Glenn? simplification of a complex issue will only allow you to pat yourself on the back. What did tarrifs do for us in the seventies? It stifled competition. These two things are not connected. Corporations make profits, because this is what corporations supposed to do. Millions of American retirees own stock of those corporations. Are you suggesting there is something wrong with those retirees receiving profits on their investments? We bail out corporations, because the majority of the people went to free government school, where they were indoctrinated. They do not know anything of value. How do you expect these people to make a decision that requires understanding of business and economics? When some asshole in the government tells them that a bailout is a good idea, they believe that. Just look up an opinion on bailout on this very board, and you will find quite a few, who think that was a proper decision.  Thank you! Well stated.

What would happen to our manufacturing sector if China and the US become at odds with each other? Would it bankrupt those companies which depend on China for the fabrication of a product itself or some components, or would it force our government to prop up those things as it has done for the banking/investing industry? Would it be bad... how? Good...how? Your manufacturing sector would be in crisis....INITIALLY....then the true spirit of your nation, the 'pick yourself up, and get on with it', ingenuity, and resourcefulness that your people are known for, would return. Initially I suspect many companies would bankrupt. The reasons being is it isn't 'trade' that is utilised, it's become greed based dependency. It would hopefully create space for your government to inject funding into american based production, and consumption... and also to generate a change in consumer mentality. My thoughts....................... and by all means change the name of 'your country', to 'my country', 'their country'....one size fits all. Sadly Lee, greed based dependency is a tag that fits us.

Somebody has to make up their mind, first I hear people saying that americans are spoiled and want to make too much money. Now how the hell is anyone supposed to pay more for a product made in america if the wages don't support being able to buy them? I am so confused.  You aren't confused! In the event that we shut the doors on Chinese goods, which will never happen, the market would change. America would still find a country that would supply our needs. The market will compensate. People want to maintain their standard of living and if the price of goods made here don't drop we will find the same goods at a lower price elsewhere. Truth is, we are spoiled and if a country can capitalize on that then they will...... and we will let them.

Ah yes, the hypocrisy of the Left continues to run rampant. Jot this one on a post-it: Obama is simply an AMERICAN just like the rest of us. Only in this country. I don't ever hear a black guy from britian refer to himself as a African-Britian. How about a Latino-Canadian. It's just stupid false tribalism, manufactured to keep us dividing ourselves, while Oligarchs bail with our Country. An interesting question: If an American of German ancestry packed up his lederhosen and moved to Germany would he then be referred to as a German-German? Perhaps a German-American-German? Maybe a North American-German? Ah! A flag waving surrender monkey-German! No, wait..... that would be a Frenchman. Sorry. That's funny. A German-American-German.

well, if Obama's deficit is 4 times as much as Bush's... how many times was Bush's deficit more than Clinton's? Same stupid liberal/conservative "defend my side" response. So much for f*cking change. Right now, the CBO estimates that Obama's budget will result in a $2.3T ADDITIONAL deficit (as in, over the $7T Obama's people are saying)over the next decade. That's half the debt added by Bush in 8 years! And that's only if the economy gets better - any worse and it'll balloon even more. That also is only the budget deficit - other bailouts and socialist ventures are not included. Bush being a d*uchebag does not allow Obama free reign. yeah, Bush overspent (the war was not the bulk of it either) and he should be held accountable for that. But him overspending does not give anyone, especially a candidate that ran on change, the right to do the exact same thing. It costs money to fix the Bush mess, it wasnt going to clean itself up. Years of tax cuts for the rich and fat contracts for the Iraq war profiteers came at the expense of our infrastructure. How can anyone keep a straight face and blame Obama for this mess? While gas prices were shooting through the roof and a war being waged bleeding our treasury dry we didnt hear a peep from these hoaxters. When a republican congress passed the patriot act we didnt hear a word from them about "no one had the time to read it" Now these same hoaxsters who created so much suffering are bemoaning that no one read the stimulas act. Thats it for me for now off to a union meeting, working hard to keep good paying taxable paychecks right here in america. Actually, yes, it would clean itself up. That's how capitalism works. we should have let the banks, AIG, GM, Chrysler and all the the whining p*ssies fall. Others buy the assets and new companies form. The Democrats would never let that happen, however, because of all the little girlie union people that want mommy union to get everything for them instead of actually (here's a thought!) working for it. If GM fell, the UAW would go right along with it because the new owners would not give the asinine deals the current members get. OMFG! Stop sniffing the glue man!  You have been shoveling the sh!t for so long you are beginning to believe in it.

My own poll shows I know half you people half as much as I would like too and like half as much of you half as well as you deserve, and The other poll I conducted shows the 2% of people on here are going to continue to pick out the 2% of history and 2% of the facts to support the 2% of there opinions that are entirely based on 100% biased opinion and make these post so monotinous for the rest of us.
